य आन॑यत्परा॒वतः॒ सुनी॑ती तु॒र्वशं॒ यदु॑म् । इन्द्रः॒ स नो॒ युवा॒ सखा॑
ya ānayatparāvataḥ sunītī turvaśaṃ yadum indraḥ sa no yuvā sakhā
He who brought from the distant beyond, of true conduct, the swift-acting youthful host—Indra is our comrade and helper.

अ॒वि॒प्रे चि॒द्वयो॒ दध॑दना॒शुना॑ चि॒दर्व॑ता । इन्द्रो॒ जेता॑ हि॒तं धन॑म्
avipre cidvayo dadhadanāśunā cidarvatā indro jetā hitaṃ dhanam
He placed the captives and the generous in order, he subdued the foe. Indra, the conqueror, indeed gave us wealth and welfare.

mahīrasya praṇītayaḥ pūrvīruta praśastayaḥ nāsya kṣīyanta ūtayaḥ
The vows of the mighty, their ancient oaths and noble praises—these shall not perish; their fame endures.

सखा॑यो॒ ब्रह्म॑वाह॒सेऽर्च॑त॒ प्र च॑ गायत । स हि नः॒ प्रम॑तिर्म॒ही
sakhāyo brahmavāhase'rcata pra ca gāyata sa hi naḥ pramatirmahī
Singing and carrying forth the sacrificial Brahman, they invoke and sing praises; he is indeed our mighty protector upon the earth.

Thou alone art the slayer of Vṛtra, the swift one; thou art twofold like those we are—thus art thou to be praised.

nayasīdvati dviṣaḥ kṛṇoṣyukthaśaṃsinaḥ nṛbhiḥ suvīra ucyase
Sitting as leader, O vanquisher, do not be hostile; grant praise to the mighty men. Among men you are called supremely brave.

brahmāṇaṃ brahmavāhasaṃ gīrbhiḥ sakhāyamṛgmiyam gāṃ na dohase huve
Brahman and the bearer of Brahman, with songs like a comradeship of stags—do not withhold the cow from the milking; invoke it with a call.

By whose hands all treasures shone forth, by whom the twain were made abundant—through the brave his riches were brought; he is the slayer of enemies.

He who gave firm lands and strength to men, O lord of might—vast is thy creative power, endless thy greatness.

To thee, O true drinker of Soma, O lord of the boar and the sacred chant, we have called; we have declared thy fame by utterance.

You who are the bright one in the town, who indeed brings benefit with wealth; the oblation is heard, the oblation.

With prudent prayers, with abundant strength, Indra, hearing the call; by you indeed the wealth is victorious.

abhūru vīra girvaṇo mahām̐ indra dhane hite bhare vitantasāyyaḥ
Mighty, famed in speech, great Indra is beneficial for wealth; he spread afar the burdens.

That which the hostile slayer of foes has sent forth in sacrificial fame, by that destroy our chariot not.

He who is best among chariots, with us as the fighting pair; you overcome, beneficial wealth.

He who alone praised this famed excellent ploughing of kine, the lord of rites, strong and zealous.

He who spoke calling, established, kindly friend and auspicious companion; do not reject him, O Indra.

dhiṣva vajraṃ gabhastyo rakṣohatyāya vajrivaḥ sāsahīṣṭhā abhi spṛdhaḥ
Wise ones bore the thunderbolt, for slaying the Rakshas; mighty ones strove, they approached with rivalry.

pratnaṃ rayīṇāṃ yujaṃ sakhāyaṃ kīricodanam brahmavāhastamaṃ huve
I invoke for you the striving of the kine, O friend, the staff that urges on the herd; I call that bearer of Brahman.

He indeed rules all earthly riches, the one lord of treasures; the famed steed overcame the mountain.

sa no niyudbhirā pṛṇa kāmaṃ vājebhiraśvibhiḥ gomadbhirgopate dhṛṣat
May he place for us with generous bounty the desired full share with horses; with cows as gifts the protector held firm.

तद्वो॑ गाय सु॒ते सचा॑ पुरुहू॒ताय॒ सत्व॑ने । शं यद्गवे॒ न शा॒किने॑
tadvo gāya sute sacā puruhūtāya satvane śaṃ yadgave na śākine
Hence sing that cow for the sacrificer, for the priestly one; may what is strong in the cow be auspicious.

न घा॒ वसु॒र्नि य॑मते दा॒नं वाज॑स्य॒ गोम॑तः । यत्सी॒मुप॒ श्रव॒द्गिरः॑
na ghā vasurni yamate dānaṃ vājasya gomataḥ yatsīmupa śravadgiraḥ
Not for the rich is the gift of Yama from the cow-owner, that which the herd hears within the bounds of their pasture.

kuvitsasya pra hi vrajaṃ gomantaṃ dasyuhā gamat śacībhirapa no varat
The robber came into the pasture and seized the cow-owner’s wealth; with firm oaths the strong ones bound us.

These hundred-armed ones, like clansmen, bring you near, O Indra; do not slay the calf.

I praised your friendship of kine, the strong fame of cows; let horses be born to horseship.

He who is slow of voice and blind of sight, with stretched strength, let him not make the hymn a cause of blame.

These cows among well-born progeny, the famed song rings; let the calves not be taken from the cows.

He spoke first among men, of those praising the many: may they drive forth with the oblations.

asmākamindra bhūtu te stomo vāhiṣṭho antamaḥ asmānrāye mahe hinu
May Indra be ours, may the praise be supreme to the end; strike down for us at the great slaughter.

adhi bṛbuḥ paṇīnāṃ varṣiṣṭhe mūrdhannasthāt uruḥ kakṣo na gāṅgyaḥ
They spoke above: “The strongest among men stood on the head; the thigh is not the Ganga’s chamber.”

यस्य॑ वा॒योरि॑व द्र॒वद्भ॒द्रा रा॒तिः स॑ह॒स्रिणी॑ । स॒द्यो दा॒नाय॒ मंह॑ते
yasya vāyoriva dravadbhadrā rātiḥ sahasriṇī sadyo dānāya maṃhate
Whose delight flows like the air, prosperous and thousandfold; immediately he gives the gift with great effort.

तत्सु नो॒ विश्वे॑ अ॒र्य आ सदा॑ गृणन्ति का॒रवः॑ । बृ॒बुं स॑हस्र॒दात॑मं सू॒रिं स॑हस्र॒सात॑मम्
tatsu no viśve arya ā sadā gṛṇanti kāravaḥ bṛbuṃ sahasradātamaṃ sūriṃ sahasrasātamam
May those dear to us always praise that mighty one everywhere—the bellowing one a thousandfold, the radiant one ten thousandfold.
