Bring forth for me the wandering cow, the wise one, the milk-yielding kine tending the herds—may they be yoked to the keeper. Straightaway may they be milked much; Indra and Agni, hands skilled, are at her service.

Indra and Pūṣan steer the strong bulls, the noble ones; the heavens rejoiced not until she was milked. All gods who dwell in that place call forth the Vasus, to offer the choicest oblation and sweetened ghee.

Those beasts that desire procreative strength honour and know the womb within. The excellent sons of the kine, the emulous, bear the burden in the body, carrying forth the seed.

I choose these intelligent kine, many-nurturing, the sable-robed young bulls harnessed for the chariot’s way. These are your myriads, O men of thought; the priests ascending are beheld afar, plentiful and lofty.

That tongue of yours, rich in honey, O Agni, proclaimed in the gods’ assembly the broad-chested. By it all offerings were set upon the priests; satisfy them with libations and sweet meads.

That Agni flows like a mountain-stream, its courses bright, the divine many-spotted draught. From him born is skill for us; Jātavedas bestowed wealth, broad thoughts and right counsel for all peoples.
