I proclaim the gift of wealth formerly; I made the sacred Brahman my portion that it might increase me. I am the world, the sacrificer’s offering called forth; I am witness, filling the universe.

I, though wounded, struck down rivals; I humbled the boastful with fierce onsets. I destroyed the hostile, those who were inimical to the hot one; not one of the Dasyus remained who bore the noble name.

I, like a father, sought to be known among the wise for blessing; I pierced the stout reproach for the beloved and made a channel. I upheld the being of the worshipper by night; when you filled it, you did not reject my honor.

I pierced, I sought the beast, I heard the call and followed what the wind had carried with hunters. I made garments humble for my might; I ploughed the lodged furrows with both hands.

I am he who made you new, who made broad chariots, who like Vrtra became a slave, who seized the mountain. Those who increased you and first brought men afar, shining with dust, made the boundary bright.

Then I held them when the gods did not hold; I fixed the foundations as Tvastr (the artisan) had fitted. I sought the cows’ milk with longing; Soma, granting strength, placed the head for the draught.
