Behold, O king, the furious delight blazing, terrible and fit for sacrifice; I saw the fine, slender one. Radiant with its spreading splendour, it struck down the resounding cry.

When they fashioned the black one with streams of oil, the great father nourished his offspring. Upward shone the sun’s light; the heaven rejoices with riches and they gave splendour.

Good people, come with good fortune; old age approaches from behind. With bright offerings the two worlds stand forth; Agni, skilled, placed splendours with colours and made the realm of light.

asya yāmāso bṛhato na vagnūnindhānā agneḥ sakhyuḥ śivasya īḍyasya vṛṣṇo bṛhataḥ svāso bhāmāso yāmannaktavaścikitre
This wide‑ranged season does not blame the faults of Agni’s friends; the mighty breath of the summer of strength is invoked. The bounteous host of the Vrṣṇi, great in might, gives the breath of the season, sung in manifold ways.

Not of his own are the splendours of that season; the bright one’s great day is eminent. The elders contend with the mightiest; the lights and stars of the skies rain down from the highest.

asya śuṣmāso dadṛśānapaverjehamānasya svanayanniyudbhiḥ pratnebhiryo ruśadbhirdevatamo vi rebhadbhiraratirbhāti vibhvā
At that subtle day I saw the departing, the waning of the tired one; by the rising fires the foremost gods shine. By the streams the most divine is active; splendour goes forth, terror shines.

He will speak great words and bring what is — you were in the two realms of heaven and earth. Agni, born eminent, tied to the midmost, go with swift‑moving horses; go onward.
