The god of gods, with his ritual power, brought us the first offering to be praised. He, the smoke-banner, the fire-sign, the bounteous bringer, the steadfast oblation-receiver—may speech be worshipped.

If in the spring of the gods immortality was born like cattle, and the streams held them—then all the gods upheld what the Yajus and the priest brought; this divine clarified butter (or strength) was given.

What indeed, O king, did you accept? Whose vow did you make and who knows it? Mitra and Varuṇa, proclaiming, offered libations; the gods’ host is not that which goes without prize.

Evil are the names of that deathless one, Ofortune-less one, when in forms like poisons he appears. Whichever man among men is loved—O Agni, avert him; drive him away, cast him off.
