Bring forth the elder, the famed oblation with twofold greatness; bear the sacrifice, fill the mind with praise. Let him pour the buttered portions rich and sweet. The kings are present at the clarified butter; let the sacrifice stand. But do not seek dominion or divine rank from elsewhere.

I saw the splendid path of the high-steeded Bull, the excellent course of Rta; its rays were the eye of the All-great. It gave heaven to Dyaus, abode to Mitra, to Varuna a fitting seat. Then it bestowed broad, lofty utterance — a great praise we offered.

They held illuminating Aditi, supporting Earth, the heaven-bright ones mindful day by day, awake each day. The radiant Ones measured fields; the Adityas, lords of floods. May Mitra and Varuna traverse — when the people move, and when the people march.

This one is peaceful for Mitra and for Varuna; Soma became portioned in libations; the god shares with gods. May the gods grant him delight, all today in joyful accord. Thus kings become possessors of order when we are possessed of that order.

He who made offerings to Mitra and Varuna, carrying out rites, he warded off the unclean stream, he guarded the mortal herd of ten thousand. He protects the noble with upright vow. By hymns he adorns that vow, by praises he makes the vow splendid.

Salutations at the great dawns to you: Mitra I call, Varuna I call; hear, O bright one, O gracious one. I praise Indra and Agni, heaven’s bold guardians, the divine. May we be alive with offspring, may we flourish in the Soma’s gift.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 1, Sukta 136 · Verse 1.136.7

We, praising the gods, invoked Indra, we thought on mind and fame with the Maruts. Agni, Mitra, Varuna are our protection; we shall behold the splendid ones, we are generous.
