Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 7, Sukta 7 · Verse 7.7.1

pra vo devaṃ citsahasānamagnimaśvaṃ na vājinaṃ hiṣe namobhiḥ bhavā no dūto adhvarasya vidvāntmanā deveṣu vivide mitadruḥ

We bring forth the god in sudden thought: Agni, horse and charioteer, not desirous of wealth—salutations. Become our messenger on the path; with knowing mind go among the gods, bestowing measure.

prācīno yajñaḥ sudhitaṃ hi barhiḥ prīṇīte agnirīḷito na hotā ā mātarā viśvavāre huvāno yato yaviṣṭha jajñiṣe suśevaḥ

The ancient sacrifice is well-loved; Agni is invoked, not to be a mere slayer. May he be our mother, protector of the world’s order; from him I seek strength that the righteous may know good service.

Straight to the path the charioteer leads the folk whose minds are humans’—this is their doer. Vishpati, laying aside enmity, the radiant Agni with sweet speech is moving in the courses of rta.

Born from such vows, the fire-king, leader of hosts, the Brahman, dispenser of men’s wealth. Whether heaven or earth increases it, he whom the priest offers, the all-knowing one is worshipped.

These among the heavens extend the universal hymn—those who upheld the man’s flood. As they spread, hearers listen; those who gave me light dispel the unrighteousness of falsehood.
