We bring forth the god in sudden thought: Agni, horse and charioteer, not desirous of wealth—salutations. Become our messenger on the path; with knowing mind go among the gods, bestowing measure.

The ancient sacrifice is well-loved; Agni is invoked, not to be a mere slayer. May he be our mother, protector of the world’s order; from him I seek strength that the righteous may know good service.

Born from such vows, the fire-king, leader of hosts, the Brahman, dispenser of men’s wealth. Whether heaven or earth increases it, he whom the priest offers, the all-knowing one is worshipped.
