अश्वा॑वति प्रथ॒मो गोषु॑ गच्छति सुप्रा॒वीरि॑न्द्र॒ मर्त्य॒स्तवो॒तिभिः॑ । तमित्पृ॑णक्षि॒ वसु॑ना॒ भवी॑यसा॒ सिन्धु॒मापो॒ यथा॒भितो॒ विचे॑तसः
aśvāvati prathamo goṣu gacchati suprāvīrindra martyastavotibhiḥ tamitpṛṇakṣi vasunā bhavīyasā sindhumāpo yathābhito vicetasaḥ
First among steeds he goes to the cows, Indra, famed in heroic might, attended by mortals’ praise. Filling them with wealth like the Vasus, the waters go to the flood, as if their thought were outwardly directed.

आपो॒ न दे॒वीरुप॑ यन्ति हो॒त्रिय॑म॒वः प॑श्यन्ति॒ वित॑तं॒ यथा॒ रजः॑ । प्रा॒चैर्दे॒वासः॒ प्र ण॑यन्ति देव॒युं ब्र॑ह्म॒प्रियं॑ जोषयन्ते व॒रा इ॑व
āpo na devīrupa yanti hotriyamavaḥ paśyanti vitataṃ yathā rajaḥ prācairdevāsaḥ pra ṇayanti devayuṃ brahmapriyaṃ joṣayante varā iva
The waters, goddesses, come forth for the priestly rite; they behold the expanse like dew. Early the gods invoke, they celebrate the divine host and rejoice in the beloved sacred law like offerings.

अधि॒ द्वयो॑रदधा उ॒क्थ्यं१॒॑ वचो॑ य॒तस्रु॑चा मिथु॒ना या स॑प॒र्यतः॑ । असं॑यत्तो व्र॒ते ते॑ क्षेति॒ पुष्य॑ति भ॒द्रा श॒क्तिर्यज॑मानाय सुन्व॒ते
adhi dvayoradadhā ukthyaṃ1 vaco yatasrucā mithunā yā saparyataḥ asaṃyatto vrate te kṣeti puṣyati bhadrā śaktiryajamānāya sunvate
Above the twain they placed the chant, the pair of inspired words, joined in sound like a married pair. Unmingled in the rite they prosper, Pushya’s auspicious strength benefits the sacrificer who is well‑attuned.

आदङ्गि॑राः प्रथ॒मं द॑धिरे॒ वय॑ इ॒द्धाग्न॑यः॒ शम्या॒ ये सु॑कृ॒त्यया॑ । सर्वं॑ प॒णेः सम॑विन्दन्त॒ भोज॑न॒मश्वा॑वन्तं॒ गोम॑न्त॒मा प॒शुं नरः॑
ādaṅgirāḥ prathamaṃ dadhire vaya iddhāgnayaḥ śamyā ye sukṛtyayā sarvaṃ paṇeḥ samavindanta bhojanamaśvāvantaṃ gomantamā paśuṃ naraḥ
The Adangiras were the first to place offerings, O men, for the blazing Agnis with rite and goodness. All the cattle and steeds and cows and oxen and beasts and men partake of the sacrificial food.

य॒ज्ञैरथ॑र्वा प्रथ॒मः प॒थस्त॑ते॒ ततः॒ सूर्यो॑ व्रत॒पा वे॒न आज॑नि । आ गा आ॑जदु॒शना॑ का॒व्यः सचा॑ य॒मस्य॑ जा॒तम॒मृतं॑ यजामहे
yajñairatharvā prathamaḥ pathastate tataḥ sūryo vratapā vena ājani ā gā ājaduśanā kāvyaḥ sacā yamasya jātamamṛtaṃ yajāmahe
By sacrifice and by Atharvan's rite was the first way established; thence the Sun, observant of vow, moved in his course. He come, he uttered laws, the seers with him worship the birthless immortal—may we offer that deathless immortal by worship.

ब॒र्हिर्वा॒ यत्स्व॑प॒त्याय॑ वृ॒ज्यते॒ऽर्को वा॒ श्लोक॑मा॒घोष॑ते दि॒वि । ग्रावा॒ यत्र॒ वद॑ति का॒रुरु॒क्थ्य१॒॑स्तस्येदिन्द्रो॑ अभिपि॒त्वेषु॑ रण्यति
barhirvā yatsvapatyāya vṛjyate'rko vā ślokamāghoṣate divi grāvā yatra vadati kārurukthya1stasyedindro abhipitveṣu raṇyati
Whether outwardly the sun is roused for rulership, or the radiance speaks a verse in heaven—where the herd speaks, the poet crafts the mantra; Indra himself, when invoked, presses into the stronghold.
