Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 1, Sukta 147 · Verse 1.147.1
kathā te agne śucayanta āyordadāśurvājebhirāśuṣāṇāḥ ubhe yattoke tanaye dadhānā ṛtasya sāmanraṇayanta devāḥ
How, O Agni, didst thou make the metals pure, the gifts swift with riches and spoils? Both those which were placed on the offspring, giving to the son the rites—thus the gods upheld the ṛta and the chant.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 1, Sukta 147 · Verse 1.147.2
bodhā me asya vacaso yaviṣṭha maṃhiṣṭhasya prabhṛtasya svadhāvaḥ pīyati tvo anu tvo gṛṇāti vandāruste tanvaṃ vande agne
Grant me understanding of this speech, the most steadfast of the protector, the lord’s strength. He drinks thee, he follows thee; I praise thee, Agni— I adore thy body.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 1, Sukta 147 · Verse 1.147.3
ye pāyavo māmateyaṃ te agne paśyanto andhaṃ duritādarakṣan rarakṣa tānsukṛto viśvavedā dipsanta idripavo nāha debhuḥ
Those waters which warded me off—these, O Agni, seeing them protect from blind ruin. He preserved them, the well-doer of Vishwa-Veda; the shining ones do not deceive the gods.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 1, Sukta 147 · Verse 1.147.4
yo no agne ararivām̐ aghāyurarātīvā marcayati dvayena mantro guruḥ punarastu so asmā anu mṛkṣīṣṭa tanvaṃ duruktaiḥ
He who for us kindles the sinless life, enhancing the night with twofold splendour, the powerful mantra returns again—may he consider us, stretch thyself, repel the wrongs.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 1, Sukta 147 · Verse 1.147.5
uta vā yaḥ sahasya pravidvānmarto martaṃ marcayati dvayena ataḥ pāhi stavamāna stuvantamagne mākirno duritāya dhāyīḥ
Or he who, being skilled in counsel, honors death with twofold rite—therefore protect us, Agni, the praised one; do not let evil seek us for harm.
