Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 1, Sukta 143 · Verse 1.143.1
pra tavyasīṃ navyasīṃ dhītimagnaye vāco matiṃ sahasaḥ sūnave bhare apāṃ napādyo vasubhiḥ saha priyo hotā pṛthivyāṃ nyasīdadṛtviyaḥ
You, newly rising, O Agni, have the thought and speech; fill a thousandfold the cultivated song. Like streams of waters with riches, together with the dear priest settle on earth for the rite.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 1, Sukta 143 · Verse 1.143.2
sa jāyamānaḥ parame vyomanyāviragnirabhavanmātariśvane asya kratvā samidhānasya majmanā pra dyāvā śociḥ pṛthivī arocayat
Born when set in motion, he shone in the highest heaven; Agni became manifest, O Mātariśvan. With the act of assembling the fuel and the mass of coals he made the sky and the earth bright.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 1, Sukta 143 · Verse 1.143.3
asya tveṣā ajarā asya bhānavaḥ susaṃdṛśaḥ supratīkasya sudyutaḥ bhātvakṣaso atyakturna sindhavo'gne rejante asasanto ajarāḥ
From him these are ageless, from him the radiant ones; clearly seen, splendid, shining brightly. The Sindhu-born do not overtake his radiance; the ageless gods revere him, O Agni.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 1, Sukta 143 · Verse 1.143.4
yamerire bhṛgavo viśvavedasaṃ nābhā pṛthivyā bhuvanasya majmanā agniṃ taṃ gīrbhirhinuhi sva ā dame ya eko vasvo varuṇo na rājati
When Bhṛgu and Viśvavedas measured him, he was the navel of the earth and of the world by that mass. The gods with songs invoked that Agni; he stayed, the sole lord like Varuṇa who does not fail.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 1, Sukta 143 · Verse 1.143.5
na yo varāya marutāmiva svanaḥ seneva sṛṣṭā divyā yathāśaniḥ agnirjambhaistigitairatti bharvati yodho na śatrūnsa vanā nyṛñjate
Not one created like the Maruts their own sound, as the divine lightning; Agni, with roaring songs he bears it; the warrior does not cleanse enemies, nor subdue the woods.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 1, Sukta 143 · Verse 1.143.6
kuvinno agnirucathasya vīrasadvasuṣkuvidvasubhiḥ kāmamāvarat codaḥ kuvittutujyātsātaye dhiyaḥ śucipratīkaṃ tamayā dhiyā gṛṇe
Ill-famed Agni, shining in his hero-seat, dry with riches — by the wealthy ones, desiring the sacrificial law. Let the call restrain him; O clear-intentioned minds, I invoke that bright intelligence.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 1, Sukta 143 · Verse 1.143.7
ghṛtapratīkaṃ va ṛtasya dhūrṣadamagniṃ mitraṃ na samidhāna ṛñjate indhāno akro vidatheṣu dīdyacchukravarṇāmudu no yaṃsate dhiyam
The ghee-offering, emblem of law, adorns the steadfast Agni; Mitra is not bound by the fuel-assembly. Bring forth the flames in rites, bright-hued; may they bestow upon us intelligence.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 1, Sukta 143 · Verse 1.143.8
aprayucchannaprayucchadbhiragne śivebhirnaḥ pāyubhiḥ pāhi śagmaiḥ adabdhebhiradṛpitebhiriṣṭe'nimiṣadbhiḥ pari pāhi no jāḥ
Not scorched, not to be scorched, O Agni, protect us with auspicious waters; guard us with shieldings not foiled, with uninjured, unbroken protections, defend our births.
