Born when set in motion, he shone in the highest heaven; Agni became manifest, O Mātariśvan. With the act of assembling the fuel and the mass of coals he made the sky and the earth bright.
As soon as born, what that (Agni) manifested to Matariśvan in the highest atmosphere, and his radiance, kindled by vigorous effort, spread through heaven and earth.
Soon as he sprang to birth that Agni was shown forth to Matarisvan in the highest firmament. When he was kindled, through his power and majesty his fiery splendour made the heavens and earth to shine.
