By you, O generous one, we formerly, from Indra’s wealth, hastened; we approach the foremost chiefs, we call from the wilds. In this rite we invoked you; now sing, O leaders. In this sacrifice we carried forth the offering or filled the heroic deeds.

In the bright seat take the burden, O thoughtful one, among your people; in this assembly you are honored like the head, called foremost. May the nights be near you, auspicious nights, the nights of good fortune.

So strive with effort for those who in this rite made the draught for immortality. Twice they saw you within, they behold with rays. He indeed sought actively Indra for cattle, the seeker for kine among kinsmen.

Now thus it must be declared to you formerly: Indra taught the mountain‑path, he did not go coverless. He paced the regions alike for you and fought. From the charioteers to the ranks you shone; you kept some vow close within your heart.

What the gathered people with rites saw as beneficial, the young ones who listen preserved that hearing. Therefore life and progeny are propitiated by vigor with energy. Indra’s oblations are the strong thoughts; the gods accept not the weak thoughts.

Young men, O Indra‑born, as warriors of the town, you have stretched forth that formidable cord with the bolt. From afar they broke the deep fortress when it was observed. May our enemies be pierced; brave ones see from all sides; the law is visible from everywhere.
