To Indra the heavens are heroic, to him the earth and broad realms are poured with light. All gods set Indra in the forefront; may men be joyful to Indra. May all mortal peoples be Indra’s hosts and may men be his allies.

Among all hosts and assemblies you alone stand apart as one; bulls differ, distinct, apart. We do not strike you down; we think upon the strong one’s chariot. Indra is not to be seized by sacrifices alone; by hymns and by calls they sought Indra.

When you two paired the kine forth, the herds went out; Indra released the woman of the cows. When the cow‑rich ones moved, two peoples sang together. He uncovered the bull, made the bolt companion; Indra made the bolt companion.

Those who knew that hero’s strength before—if Indra brings autumnal breezes, fierce ones come; he ruled mortal rites, lord of oblations. He warmed this earth, these waters, these slow streams, these waters.

You, Indra, increase him who is my friend, the mortal brave one born to me, with mighty bolt. Strike down him who harms us; hear, O famed one. May mischief not come near us, may evil intent be absent everywhere.
