From the radiant Brahmans the loud-voiced Indra, O Vasiṣṭha, overcame great hosts. He, who hears all the corpses (all cries), like a swift listener, proclaimed these words.

This voice of Indra, born of gods, was invoked and he heard and spoke. He does not cure our life-span among men; these things will devour us—he will strike us not.

They yoked the chariot, the search for cows, and the gods pressed forward; the makers of Brahman strove. Indra, overwhelmed by greatness, struck Vṛtra without deceit and slew him.

The waters drank, the bright ones thirsted; neither cows nor the false dance were exhausted, O Indra. Whether the wind blew or restrained, you have compassion in your intellects and bestow wealth.

Indra, may they intoxicate you with draughts on the subtle threshold, they who inspire you with might. One god alone gives compassion to mortals; O hero, intoxicate the host with sacrifice.

Thus they worship Indra with bulls, thunder-armed, Vasiṣṭhas offering oblations. May he be praised for us, O heroic one; protect us, O givers of milk, may you be ever auspicious.
