Agni, burn our affliction; cover not my lament, cast not away my skin nor my body. When you, the knower of birth, have made this heard, then grant this oblation to the fathers.

Let the eye go to the sun, the vital breath to the wind, the soul to the heavens and the earth by duty. Or let the waters go; there let your beneficial herbs stand near, with bodies abiding.

Undying portion, born by tapas, that austerity be praised; that light may praise you. Whichever auspicious ones have been born to you, Jātavedas, carry them onward, make the world well‑done for them.

Send forth again, O Agni, what you created for the fathers when one who makes offerings moves with svadhā. Grant length of days and let the remainder go forth; may Jātavedas proceed plentifully.

May that black raven or beetle or serpent or dog‑foot that harms you be made away; may Agni strike down the world‑devourer, and Soma who entered the Brahmans bring succor.

Agni, gird about the kine, expend the cattle; prosper those who drink the juice, with fat and brain. Strike, seize, pluck away the shivering ones; avert them with fanlike force.

Agni, do not let this flesh be a tongue that injures the gods’ beloved ones. That dish which the gods drink of flesh—by it the gods make immortal; they delight in the ambrosia.
