vasū rudrā purumantū vṛdhantā daśasyataṃ no vṛṣaṇāvabhiṣṭau dasrā ha yadrekṇa aucathyo vāṃ pra yatsasrāthe akavābhirūtī
Wealthy Rudras, increasing in number, dwell in the town; grant us auspiciousness, O Vṛṣṇas. Of the tenfold herd he is the lord; he placed you in friendship and adorned you with hairlike splendor.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 1, Sukta 158 · Verse 1.158.2
ko vāṃ dāśatsumataye cidasyai vasū yaddhethe namasā pade goḥ jigṛtamasme revatīḥ puraṃdhīḥ kāmapreṇeva manasā carantā
Who among you gives these gifts and the good counsel? Wealthy ones, accept homage at the feet of kine. The revetments obtained for me the city’s pride; the daughters moved about in desire with mind intent.

yukto ha yadvāṃ taugryāya perurvi madhye arṇaso dhāyi pajraḥ upa vāmavaḥ śaraṇaṃ gameyaṃ śūro nājma patayadbhirevaiḥ
When matched, those two advanced for the vigorous fight; in the midst the flood ran like a river, the torrent. The champions did not abandon the refuge; they did not yield to enemies in battle.

upastutiraucathyamuruṣyenmā māmime patatriṇī vi dugdhām mā māmedho daśatayaścito dhākpra yadvāṃ baddhastmani khādati kṣām
They praised the homage, they shook off opulence; do not cast me away, O you who give milk here. Do not bind me with the tenfold wealth that eats the jewel in the mind.

na mā garannadyo mātṛtamā dāsā yadīṃ susamubdhamavādhuḥ śiro yadasya traitano vitakṣatsvayaṃ dāsa uro aṃsāvapi gdha
Do not be harsh, do not be unmotherly; O servants, if you harmed the well-bound joint, let the head be smoothed—let the threefold wound be healed. Even a servant’s breast and limbs are dear.

Rigveda · Chapter Mandala 1, Sukta 158 · Verse 1.158.6
दी॒र्घत॑मा मामते॒यो जु॑जु॒र्वान्द॑श॒मे यु॒गे । अ॒पामर्थं॑ य॒तीनां॑ ब्र॒ह्मा भ॑वति॒ सार॑थिः
dīrghatamā māmateyo jujurvāndaśame yuge apāmarthaṃ yatīnāṃ brahmā bhavati sārathiḥ
They fought me longest in the tenth age. For the sake of waters the wanderers become Brahman; the charioteer is the lord.
