devāḥ kapota iṣito yadicchandūto nirṛtyā idamājagāma tasmā arcāma kṛṇavāma niṣkṛtiṃ śaṃ no astu dvipade śaṃ catuṣpade

If the gods like pigeons desired sacrifice and were pleased, then they came here by means of the offering. Therefore we perform the prayerful hymn and the outward oblation; may there be welfare for bipeds and for quadrupeds.

The bird-offering’s cause does not deprive us of a foot on our arrow; in the fire-altar let it set our place. May peace be for cows and for men; gods, pigeon, do not harm us here.

What the owl utters is empty; that which the pigeon makes firm in the fire he establishes. To him whose messenger is sent and slain, salute Yama, the death-bringer.
