यस्मि॑न्वृ॒क्षे सु॑पला॒शे दे॒वैः स॒म्पिब॑ते य॒मः । अत्रा॑ नो वि॒श्पतिः॑ पि॒ता पु॑रा॒णाँ अनु॑ वेनति
yasminvṛkṣe supalāśe devaiḥ sampibate yamaḥ atrā no viśpatiḥ pitā purāṇām̐ anu venati
In which tree, the abundant palāsha, the gods pour forth Yama; there the Lord (Vishpati) formerly followed the ancient ones for us.

पु॒रा॒णाँ अ॑नु॒वेन॑न्तं॒ चर॑न्तं पा॒पया॑मु॒या । अ॒सू॒यन्न॒भ्य॑चाकशं॒ तस्मा॑ अस्पृहयं॒ पुनः॑
purāṇām̐ anuvenantaṃ carantaṃ pāpayāmuyā asūyannabhyacākaśaṃ tasmā aspṛhayaṃ punaḥ
Following after the ancients, moving like the sinful one; envying, he stretched forth the firmament — therefore he desirous not again.

यं कु॑मार॒ नवं॒ रथ॑मच॒क्रं मन॒साकृ॑णोः । एके॑षं वि॒श्वतः॒ प्राञ्च॒मप॑श्य॒न्नधि॑ तिष्ठसि
yaṃ kumāra navaṃ rathamacakraṃ manasākṛṇoḥ ekeṣaṃ viśvataḥ prāñcamapaśyannadhi tiṣṭhasi
The youthful one who newly yoked the chariot made by the mind: seeing one thing from all sides, he stands above and below.

यं कु॑मार॒ प्राव॑र्तयो॒ रथं॒ विप्रे॑भ्य॒स्परि॑ । तं सामानु॒ प्राव॑र्तत॒ समि॒तो ना॒व्याहि॑तम्
yaṃ kumāra prāvartayo rathaṃ viprebhyaspari taṃ sāmānu prāvartata samito nāvyāhitam
The youthful one who drove forth the chariot among the priests: that same unmeasured one drove it forward together, not left unattended.

कः कु॑मा॒रम॑जनय॒द्रथं॒ को निर॑वर्तयत् । कः स्वि॒त्तद॒द्य नो॑ ब्रूयादनु॒देयी॒ यथाभ॑वत्
kaḥ kumāramajanayadrathaṃ ko niravartayat kaḥ svittadadya no brūyādanudeyī yathābhavat
Who begot the youthful one and fashioned the chariot? Who turned it anew? Who would tell us today truly as it was?

यथाभ॑वदनु॒देयी॒ ततो॒ अग्र॑मजायत । पु॒रस्ता॑द्बु॒ध्न आत॑तः प॒श्चान्नि॒रय॑णं कृ॒तम्
yathābhavadanudeyī tato agramajāyata purastādbudhna ātataḥ paścānnirayaṇaṃ kṛtam
As it was, one would tell it; then he advanced. First they bound the front, next they made the rear filled (with equipment).

इ॒दं य॒मस्य॒ साद॑नं देवमा॒नं यदु॒च्यते॑ । इ॒यम॑स्य धम्यते ना॒ळीर॒यं गी॒र्भिः परि॑ष्कृतः
idaṃ yamasya sādanaṃ devamānaṃ yaducyate iyamasya dhamyate nāḷīrayaṃ gīrbhiḥ pariṣkṛtaḥ
This is Yama’s seat, called a divine assembly. This sacred pole is worshipped and purified by the Vedas and heard in songs.
