ऊचुश चैनम अग्निम आम्नायानुसारी भूत्वा त्रिधा कृत्वोर्वशीसलोकतामनोरथम उद्दिश्य सम्यग यजेथास ततो ऽवश्यम अभिलषितम अवाप्स्यसीत्य उक्तस ताम अग्निस्थालीम आदायाजगाम अन्तर अटव्याम अचिन्तयद अहो मे ऽतिमूढता यद अग्निस्थली मयानीता नोर्वशीति। अथैनाम अटव्याम एवाग्निस्थालीं तत्याज स्वपुरं चाजगाम।।
ūcuś cainam agnim āmnāyānusārī bhūtvā tridhā kṛtvorvaśīsalokatāmanoratham uddiśya samyag yajethās tato 'vaśyam abhilaṣitam avāpsyasīty uktas tām agnisthālīm ādāyājagāma antar aṭavyām acintayad aho me 'timūḍhatā yad agnisthalī mayānītā norvaśīti| athainām aṭavyām evāgnisthālīṃ tatyāja svapuraṃ cājagāma||
They said to him, 'Perform the sacrifice properly, aiming for the pleasures of Urvashi, and you will surely attain what you desire.' Taking the fire pot, he went into the forest, thinking, 'How foolish I am, for I have brought the fire pot and not Urvashi.' He then left the fire pot in the forest and returned to his city.
