ऋषि॒र्विप्रः॑ पुरए॒ता जना॑नामृ॒भुर्धीर॑ उ॒शना॒ काव्ये॑न । स चि॑द्विवेद॒ निहि॑तं॒ यदा॑सामपी॒च्यं१॒॑ गुह्यं॒ नाम॒ गोना॑म्
ṛṣirvipraḥ puraetā janānāmṛbhurdhīra uśanā kāvyena sa cidviveda nihitaṃ yadāsāmapīcyaṃ1 guhyaṃ nāma gonām
The seer, the sage, the city-founder, the knower of peoples and wealth, with sharp insight spoke in sacred verse. When he placed the hidden name of cattle in the inner place, he was conscious and knowing.
The ṛṣi, the sage, the foremost of men, the far-shining intelligent Uṣanas-- he verily by his poetic gift discovered the secret milk of those cows which was hidden and concealed.
Rsi and Sage, the Champion of the people, cleft and sagacious, Usana in wisdom, He hath discovered even their hidden nature, the Cows' concealed and most mysterious title.
