उपो॑ रुरुचे युव॒तिर्न योषा॒ विश्वं॑ जी॒वं प्र॑सु॒वन्ती॑ च॒रायै॑ । अभू॑द॒ग्निः स॒मिधे॒ मानु॑षाणा॒मक॒र्ज्योति॒र्बाध॑माना॒ तमां॑सि
upo ruruce yuvatirna yoṣā viśvaṃ jīvaṃ prasuvantī carāyai abhūdagniḥ samidhe mānuṣāṇāmakarjyotirbādhamānā tamāṃsi
A youthful maiden sang above, who filled all life with song. Agni became the ember-fire of mortals, a lamp dispelling darkness in the flesh.
Uṣas shines radiant in the proximity (of the sun), like a youthful wife (in the presence of her husband),animating all existence to activity; Agni is to be kindled for the good of men; the light disperses the obstructingdarkness.
SHE hath shone brightly like a youthful woman, stirring to motion every living creature. Agni hath come to feed on mortal? fuel. She hath made light and chased away the darkness.
