This Sun, a watcher of men, both Mitra and Varuṇa, rose and shone upon the world. He sustains the stable world; behold the herdsman who watches the straight ways of mortals.
This Sūrya, the beholder of man, rises, Mitra and Varuṇa, upon both (heaven and earth), moving (inthe sky); he who is the preserver of all that is stationary or moveable, witnessing the upright acts or the sins ofmortals.
Looking on man, O Varuna and Mitra, this Sun ascendeth up by both the pathways, Guardian of all things fixt, of all that moveth, beholding good and evil acts of mortals.
