Both the left (Indra) and Agni are to be invoked; both are choosers and seat-makers, grant praise together; both givers of riches, lay hold on the wealth of strength, invoke the left.

I invoke you both, Indra and Agni, to be present at the sacrifice; and both together to be exhilarated by the (sacrificial) food; for you are both donors of food and riches, and therefore I invoke you both for the obtaining of sustenance.

Indra and Agni, I will call you hither and make you joyful with the gifts I offer. Ye Twain are givers both of food and riches: to win me strength and vigour I invoke you.
