gāvo bhago gāva indro me acchāngāvaḥ somasya prathamasya bhakṣaḥ imā yā gāvaḥ sa janāsa indra icchāmīddhṛdā manasā cidindram
Cows are the gods, cows are Indra’s best; cows are the first food of Soma. These cows I desire, Indra, known by heart and mind to you.
May the cows be (for our) affluence; may Indra grant me cattle; may the cows yield the food of the first libation; these cows, oḥ men, are the Indra, the Indra whom I desire with heart and mins.
To me the Cows seem Bhaga, they seem Indra, they seem a portion of the first-poured Soma. These present Cows, they, O ye Indra. I long for Indra with my heart and spirit.
