When Varuṇa nourished the earth as from milk, he raised the earth and the heaven. Mountains stood clothed in clouds; heroes upheld the paths.
Varuṇa waters earth, mid-air, and heaven, when he plural ases (to send forth) the milk (of the cloud); thereupon the mountains cloth (their summits) withthe rain-cloud, and the hero, (Maruts), exulting in their strength, compel (the clouds) to relax.
When Varuna is fain for milk he moistens the sky, the land, and earth to her foundation. Then straight the mountains clothe them in the rain-cloud: the Heroes, putting forth their vigour, loose them.
