Those who first among mortals invoked you as god, Agni, gave the immortal gentle‑tongued one; the twofold enmity was removed by minds, they restrained the unruly house‑lord foolishness.
Immortal Agni, devout mortals worship with holy rites you the first deity (of the gods), whose tongue exhilarates (them), the dissipator of sin, the humiliator (of the demons) the lord of the mansion, the unperplexed.
Immortal Agni, thee whose voice is pleasant, as first in rank, as God, religious mortals Invite with hyrnns; thee who removest hatred, Friend of the Home, the household's Lord, unerring.
