ava kranda dakṣiṇato gṛhāṇāṃ sumaṅgalo bhadravādī śakunte mā naḥ stena īśata māghaśaṃso bṛhadvadema vidathe suvīrāḥ
Do not cry out from the south among the houses, O bird; auspicious birds with felicitous omens, do not bring to us the stealthy lament of Magha’s tidings; great‑voiced poets and brave men are our protectors in assembly.
Bird, who are ominous of good fortune, the proclaimer of good luck, cry from the south of our dwellings; may no thief, no evil-doer prevail agains tus; that blessed with excellent descendants we may worthily praise you at this sacrifice.
Bringing good tidings, Bird of happy omen, call thou out loudly southward of our dwellings, So that no thief, no sinner may oppress us. Loud may we speak, with heroes, in assembly.
