य॒ज्ञस्य॑ के॒तुं प्र॑थ॒मं पु॒रोहि॑तं ह॒विष्म॑न्त ईळते स॒प्त वा॒जिन॑म् । शृ॒ण्वन्त॑म॒ग्निं घृ॒तपृ॑ष्ठमु॒क्षणं॑ पृ॒णन्तं॑ दे॒वं पृ॑ण॒ते सु॒वीर्य॑म्
yajñasya ketuṃ prathamaṃ purohitaṃ haviṣmanta īḷate sapta vājinam śaṛṇvantamagniṃ ghṛtapṛṣṭhamukṣaṇaṃ pṛṇantaṃ devaṃ pṛṇate suvīryam
The auspicious banner of the sacrifice, the first priest, the sacrificer sings forth the oblation for the seven‑voiced one. Hear Agni, with butter upon thy back, filling, invoking the god, O heroic one.
The seven (priests) bearing oblations worship Agni, the emblem of sacrifice, the first of the gods, thefamily priest, the possessor of food, the hearer (of our prayers), the anointed with butter, the shedder of moisture,propitiating the worshipper who propitiates him, divine, endowed with excellent might.
The seven who bring oblations worship thee, the Strong, the first, the Great Chief Priest, Ensign of sacrifice, The oil-anointed Bull, Agni who hears, who sends as God full hero strength to him who freely gives.
