या वी॒र्या॑णि प्रथ॒मानि॒ कर्त्वा॑ महि॒त्वेभि॒र्यत॑मानौ समी॒यतुः॑ । ध्वा॒न्तं तमोऽव॑ दध्वसे ह॒त इन्द्रो॑ म॒ह्ना पू॒र्वहू॑तावपत्यत
yā vīryāṇi prathamāni kartvā mahitvebhiryatamānau samīyatuḥ dhvāntaṃ tamo'va dadhvase hata indro mahnā pūrvahūtāvapatyata
Those foremost deeds of heroism when done, the mighty paired ones confronted; Light dispelled the darkness—Indra, slain by might, formerly offered his oblations.
(In the midst of) the first exploits to be performed by them which (Indra and Vṛtra) achieved strivingwith their utmost might, Vṛtra being slain, the thick darkness was destroyed, and Indra in his might came at thefirst challenge.
Even in the first of those heroic acts which they who strove together came with might to execute, Deep darkness fell upon the slain, and Indra won by victory the right of being first invoked.
