वि॒शां गो॒पा अ॑स्य चरन्ति ज॒न्तवो॑ द्वि॒पच्च॒ यदु॒त चतु॑ष्पद॒क्तुभिः॑ । चि॒त्रः प्र॑के॒त उ॒षसो॑ म॒हाँ अ॒स्यग्ने॑ स॒ख्ये मा रि॑षामा व॒यं तव॑
viśāṃ gopā asya caranti jantavo dvipacca yaduta catuṣpadaktubhiḥ citraḥ praketa uṣaso mahām̐ asyagne sakhye mā riṣāmā vayaṃ tava
Cattle wander over the plains, creatures roam the two islands, four-footed beasts. The brilliant dawn reveals this great scene. O Agni, befriend us; do not be angry with us.
His genitive al (flames), the preservers of mankind, spread around, and both bipeds and quadrupeds are enlivened by his rays; shining with various lustre, and illuminating (the world by night), you are superior to the dawn; let us not, Agni, suffer injury through your friendship.
His ministers move forth, the guardians of the folk, protecting quadruped and biped with their rays. Mighty art thou, the wondrous herald of the Dawn. Let us not in thy friend. ship, Agni, suffer harm.
