indro madāya vāvṛdhe śavase vṛtrahā nṛbhiḥ taminmahatsvājiṣūtemarbhe havāmahe sa vājeṣu pra no'viṣat
Indra grew mighty in fury, slaying hosts and Vrtra for men. We invoked that great power in our songs; he poured it forth among the forces.
Indra, the slayer of Vṛtra, has been augmented in strength and satisfaction by (the adoration of) men; we invoke him in great conflicts as well as in little conflicts; may he defend us in battles.
THE men have lifted Indra up, the Vrtra slayer, to joy and strength: Him, verily, we invocate in battles whether great or small: be he our aid in deeds of might.
