In the forest the earlier wise ones—Agni, beloved, the auspicious—beheld all things.

[1-2] We solicit abundant (food) Agni, who is to be approached by meditation, and shines with pure light, pervades all holy rites, knowing well the acts that are to be addressed to the deities, and (those) which regulate) the birth of the human race.

MAY we, the pious, win much food by prayer, may Agni with fair light pervade each act,- He the observer of the heavenly laws of Gods, and of the race of mortal man.
