श॒क॒मयं॑ धू॒ममा॒राद॑पश्यं विषू॒वता॑ प॒र ए॒नाव॑रेण । उ॒क्षाणं॒ पृश्नि॑मपचन्त वी॒रास्तानि॒ धर्मा॑णि प्रथ॒मान्या॑सन्
śakamayaṃ dhūmamārādapaśyaṃ viṣūvatā para enāvareṇa ukṣāṇaṃ pṛśnimapacanta vīrāstāni dharmāṇi prathamānyāsan
I saw smoke and disease like a creeping hostile one; the heroes baked the offerings on the threshing-floor and first established the laws.
I beheld near (me) the smoke of burning cow-dung; and by that tall-pervading mean (effect, discovered the cause (fire); the priests have the Soma ox, for such are their first duties.
I saw from far away the smoke of fuel with spires that rose on high o'er that beneath it. The Mighty Men have dressed the spotted bullock. These were the customs in the days aforetime,
