अवध्यः सर्वभूतानां वज्रसंहननो युवा। पाण्डवैः समरे पुत्रो निहतो मम संजय॥ न दिष्टमभ्यतिक्रान्तुं शक्यं गावल्गणे नरैः। यत् समेत्य रणे पाथैः पुत्रो मम निपातितः॥ अद्रिसारमयं नूनं हृदयं मम संजय। हतं पुत्रशतं श्रुत्वा यन्न दीर्णं सहस्रधा॥ कथं हि वृद्धमिथुनं हतपुत्रं भविष्यति। न ह्यहं पाण्डवेयस्य विषये वस्तुमुत्सहे॥
