Sūta said: This creation is characterized by contrariety and imperfection. The first (1) creation of Brahmā is that of Mahat; the next (2) that of tanmātras; the third (3) is Vaikārika (i.e. of the nature of transformation and ramification); this three-fold creation was evolved prior to intelligence. (4) The primary (mukhya) creation (of insentient beings) is the fourth. The immobile beings are the mukhyas.
