Sūta said: The waters were in existence at the outset when the whole surface of the earth had been destroyed. In the vast quiet and sparkling waters nothing else was known. When the mobile and immobile beings are destroyed in that vast, sea-like expanse of water, Brahmā assumes a form with thousand eyes, thousand feet, thousand heads.[14] He is then called Nārāyaṇa. He is the golden-coloured Puruṣa beyond the sense organs. He had his slumber in that expanse of water.
