He shall then procure every species of seed, sanctify them by means of the Mahāvrata Mantra (referred to in the Atharva Veda ), wet them with water rendered pure by contact with gold and Kuśā grass and gently put them layer over layer in a broad mouthed central pot and shall perform Homa in honour of the Gods— Vāyu (the wind), Varuṇa (rain) and Soma (the Moon).
