Gayatri Mantra
गायत्री मन्त्र
The Gayatri Mantra is the most sacred and universally revered mantra of the Vedic tradition. Addressed to Savitri — the divine solar light — it is a prayer for the illumination of the intellect. Traditionally recited at the three sandhyas (dawn, noon, dusk), it is the essence of all Vedic wisdom in 24 syllables.
गायत्री मन्त्र वैदिक परम्परा का सर्वाधिक पवित्र और सार्वभौमिक मन्त्र है। यह सवितृ — दिव्य सौर प्रकाश — को सम्बोधित है और बुद्धि के प्रकाशन की प्रार्थना है। तीन संध्याओं (प्रातः, मध्याह्न, सायं) पर जपा जाने वाला यह मन्त्र २४ अक्षरों में समस्त वैदिक ज्ञान का सार है।
ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः
Translation
Om. (We invoke) the physical realm, the vital realm, and the celestial realm.
तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि । धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ॥
Translation
We meditate upon that most excellent divine radiance of Savitri — the shining God. May that divine light inspire and illuminate our intellects.
