Kṣatrasya yonirasi kṣatrasya nābhirasi. Mā tvā hi|msīnmā mā hi|msīḥ.
You are the womb of the warrior, you are the navel of the warrior. Do not harm yourself, do not be violent.

निषसाद धृतव्रतो वरुणः पस्त्यास्वा। साम्राज्याय सुक्रतुः। मृत्योः पाहि विद्योत्पाहि।
Niṣasāda dhṛtavrato varuṇaḥ pastyāsvā. Sāmrājyāya sukratuḥ. Mṛtyoḥ pāhi vidyotpāhi.
Varuṇa, steadfast in vow, sat down; be steadfast in worship. For sovereignty, do the good deed. Protect from death, protect knowledge.

देवस्य त्वा सवितुः प्रसवेऽ श्विनोर्बाहुभ्यां पूउष्णो हस्ताभ्याम। आश्विनोर्भैषज्येन तेजसे ब्रह्म-वर्चसायाभिषिञ्चामि सरश्वत्यै भैषज्येन वीर्यायान्नाद्यायाभिषिञ्चामीन्द्रस्येन्द्रियेण बलाय श्रियै यशसेऽ भिषिञ्चामि।
Devasya tvā savituḥ prasave' śvinorbāhubhyā≈ pūuṣṇo hastābhyām. āśvinorbhaiṣajyena tejase brahma-varcasāyābhiṣi¤cāmi Saraśvatyai bhaiṣajyena vīryāyānnādyāyābhiṣi¤cāmīndrasyendriyeṇa balāya śriyai yaśase' bhiṣi¤cāmi.
O god, at Savitā’s birth, by the twin horses' arms, by Pūṣṇa's hands; with the Ashvins' healing for vigor and Brahmanic radiance I anoint Sarasvatī with medicines; by Indra’s sense I anoint for strength, prosperity and fame.

Ko'si katamo'si kasmai tvā kāya tvā. Suśloka sumaΔgala satyarājan.
Who are you? Which one are you? To whom are you? Who is your body? O well-spoken, auspicious, sovereign of truth.

›iro me śrīryaśo mukha≈ tviṣiḥ keśāśca śmaśrū u ṇi. Rājā me prāṇo'amṛta| m samrāṭ cakṣurvirāṭ śrotram.
May splendour and fame be my head; may brilliance be my face; may hair and eyelashes be mine. May my life be king, immortality my ruler, the eye vast, the ear majestic.

Jihvā me bhadra≈ vāΔmaho mano manyuḥ svarāŒ bhāmaḥ. Modāḥ pramodā aΔgulīraΔgāni mitra≈ me sahaḥ.
May my tongue be auspicious, my speech great; may mind, wrath, tone and splendour be bright. Joys and great joys, fingers and limbs, be my friend and companion.

बाहूउ मे बलमिन्द्रियंम हस्तौ मे कर्म वीर्यम। आत्मा क्षत्रमुरो मम।
Bāhūu me balamindriya|m hastau me karma vīryam. Åtmā kṣatramuro mama.
May my arms be strength and sense; my hands be deed and valour. May the self be my fortress and spear.

Pṛṣṭhīrme rāṣtramudarama|msau grīvāśca śroṇī. ªUrūu 'aratnī jānunī viśo me' Δgāni sarvataḥ.
My back be kingdom, my belly the realm, my two sides the necks and loins. My thighs and knees, all my limbs everywhere.

नाभिर्मे चित्तं विज्ञानं पायुर्मेऽ पचितिर्भसत। आनन्दनन्दावाण्डौ मे भगः सौभाग्यं पसः। जङ्घाभ्यां पद्भ्यां धर्मोऽस्मि विशि राजा प्रतिष्ठितः।
Nābhirme citta≈ vij¤āna≈ pāyurme' pacitirbhasat. ÅnandanandāvāṇŒau me bhagaḥ saubhāgya≈ pasaḥ. JaΔghābhyā≈ padbhyā≈ dharmo'smi viśi rājā pratiṣṭhitaḥ.
May my navel be mind and knowledge; may my strength be cooked and fruitful. May bliss and great bliss be my lot, good fortune my support. With calves and feet I am righteousness, established as king.

प्रति क्षत्रे प्रति तिष्ठामि राष्ट्रे प्रत्यश्वेषु प्रति तिष्ठामि गोषु। प्रत्यङ्गेषु प्रति तिष्ठाम्यात्मन प्रति प्राणेषु प्रति तिष्ठामि पुष्टे प्रति द्यावापृथिव्योः प्रति तिष्ठामि यज्ञे।
Prati kṣatre prati tiṣṭhāmi rāṣṭre pratyaśveṣu prati tiṣṭhāmi goṣu. PratyaΔgeṣu prati tiṣṭhāmyātman prati prāṇeṣu prati tiṣṭhāmi puṣṭe prati dyāvāpṛthivyoḥ prati tiṣṭhāmi yaj¤e.
I stand for each warrior, I stand in the realm, I stand before horses, I stand among cattle. I stand before limbs, before the self, before the breaths; I stand nourished for heaven and earth, I stand in sacrifice.

त्रया देवा एकादश त्रयस्त्रिंम्शाः सुराधसः। बृहस्पतिपुरोहिता देवस्य सवितुः सवे। देवा देवैरवन्तु मा।
Trayā devā ekādaśa trayastri|mśāḥ surādhasaḥ. Bṛhaspatipurohitā devasya savituḥ save. Devā devairavantu mā.
Threefold are the gods, eleven, and thirty-three, chiefs of the gods. Brihaspati, the priest, serves the god Savitṛ along with all. May the gods be among gods—do not depart.

प्रथमा द्वितीयैर्द्वितीयस्तृतीयैस्तृतीयाः सत्येन सत्यं यज्ञेन यज्ञो यजुर्भिर्यजू उ ं म षि सामभिः सामान्यृग्भिरृचः पुरोऽनुवाक्याभिः पुरोऽनुवाक्या याज्याभिर्याज्या वषट्कारैर्वषट्काराऽआहुतिभिराहुतयो मे कामान्त्समर्धयन्तु भूउः स्वाहा।
Prathamā dvitīyairdvitīyastṛtīyaistṛtīyāḥ satyena satya≈ yaj¤ena yaj¤o yajurbhiryajū u | m ṣi sāmabhiḥ sāmānyṛgbhirṛcaḥ puro'nuvākyābhiḥ puro'nuvākyā yājyābhiryājyā vaṣaṭkārairvaṣaṭkārā'āhutibhirāhutayo me kāmāntsamardhayantu bhūuḥ svāhā.
First by seconds, seconds by thirds, thirds by truth; truth by sacrifice, sacrifice by Yajur, by Ṛg and Sāma alike; by ritual utterances and sacred recitations, by that which is to be offered and by oblations, by the sixfold and invocations—may these oblations fulfill my desires, so be it, svāhā.

लोमानि प्रयतिर्मम त्वङ म आनतिरागतिः। मांम्सं मऽउपनतिर्वस्वस्थि मज्जा मऽ आनतिः।
Lomāni prayatirmama tvaΔ ma ānatirāgatiḥ. Mā|msa≈ ma'upanatirvasvasthi majjā ma' ānatiḥ.
The hairs of my body bristle — you bring on my coming. Flesh approaches me; strength and body come to me.

यद्देवा देवहेडनं देवासश्चकृमा वयम। आग्निर्मा तस्मादेनसो विश्वान्मुञ्चत्वंम्हसः।
Yaddevā devaheŒana≈ devāsaścakṛmā vayam. āgnirmā tasmādenaso viśvānmu¤catva|mhasaḥ.
What the gods compounded as power of the gods we performed. O Agni, from that do not free the vital breaths of ours;

Yadi divā yadi naktamenā|msi cakṛmā vayam. Vāyurmā tasmādenaso viśvānmu¤catva|mhasaḥ.
If by day or by night we performed these rites, O Vāyu, from that do not free the vital breaths of ours;

यद्ग्रामे यदरण्ये यत्सभायां यदिन्द्रिये। यच्छू उ द्रे यदर्ये यदेनश्चकृमा वयं यदेकस्याधि धर्मणि तस्यावयजनमसि।
Yadgrāme yadaraṇye yatsabhāyā≈ yadindriye. Yacchū u dre yadarye yadenaścakṛmā vaya≈ yadekasyādhi dharmaṇi tasyāvayajanamasi.
What in the village, in the forest, in the assembly, in the sense-organs—what in cattle, in the field, what we did and what belonged to one in righteousness, that has been offered to him.

यदापोऽअघ्न्याऽइति वरुणेति शपामहे ततो वरुण नो मुञ्च। आवभृथ निचुम्पुण निचेरुरसि निचुम्पुणः। आव देवैर्देवकृतमेनोऽ यक्ष्यव मर्त्यैर्मर्त्यकृतं पुरुराव्णो देव रिषस्पाहि।
Yadāpo'aghnyā'iti varuṇeti śapāmahe tato varuṇa no mu¤ca. āvabhṛtha nicumpuṇa nicerurasi nicumpuṇaḥ. āva devairdevakṛtameno' yakṣyava martyairmartyakṛta≈ pururāvṇo deva riṣaspāhi.
If we called the waters uninjurable and swore to Varuṇa, then Varuṇa do not release us. They poured, they pressed, they kissed—O gods, what gods have wrought remain; mortals, what mortals have wrought, O gods, protect us from the adversary.

ऊद्वयं तमसस्परि स्वः पश्यन्तऽउत्तरम। देवं देवत्रा सूउर्यमगन्म ज्योतिरुत्तमम।
ūdvaya≈ tamasaspari svaḥ paśyanta'uttaram. Deva≈ devatrā sūuryamaganma jyotiruttamam.
Twofold, overcoming darkness, behold the northern. The god among gods goes to the sun; light supreme has risen.
Yajurveda 20.22 — Agni Devata

आपोऽअद्यान्वचारिषंम रसेन समसृक्ष्महि। पयस्वानग्नऽआगमं तं मा सं म सृज वर्चसा प्रजया च धनेन च।
āpo'adyānvacāriṣa|m rasena samasṛkṣmahi. Payasvānagna'āgama≈ ta≈ mā sa| m sṛja varcasā prajayā ca dhanena ca.
May the waters that go before us be sustained by the sap; may the milky Agni come—create for us with splendour, progeny and wealth.

आभ्यादधामि समिधमग्ने व्रतपते त्वयि। व्रतं च श्रद्धां चोपैमीन्धे त्वा दीक्षितोऽ अहम।
ābhyādadhāmi samidhamagne vratapate tvayi. Vrata≈ ca śraddhā≈ copaimīndhe tvā dīkṣito' aham.
I place the fuel before you, Agni, lord of vow, to you I present vow and faith; I am initiated to you, accept me.

यत्र ब्रह्म च क्षत्रं च सम्यञ्चौ चरतः सह। तंल्लोकं पुण्यं प्रज्ञेषं यत्र देवाः सहाग्निन।
Yatra brahma ca kṣatra≈ ca samya¤cau carataḥ saha. Ta≈lloka≈ puṇya≈ praj¤eṣa≈ yatra devāḥ sahāgnina.
Where Brahman and Kshatra move together aright, that realm is blessed, a domain of wisdom where the gods are with the fires.
Yajurveda 20.26 — Agni Devata

यत्रेन्द्रश्च वायुश्च सम्यञ्चौ चरतः सह। तंल्लोकं पुण्यं प्रज्ञेषं यत्र सेदिम विद्यते।
Yatrendraśca vāyuśca samya¤cau carataḥ saha. Ta≈lloka≈ puṇya≈ praj¤eṣa≈ yatra sedima vidyate.
Where Indra and Vāyu move together aright, that realm is blessed, a domain of wisdom where this Soma is found.

अंम्शुना ते अंम्शुः पृच्यतां परुषा परुः। गन्धस्ते सोममवतु मदाय रसोऽअच्युतः।
A|mśunā te a|mśuḥ pṛcyatā≈ paruṣā paruḥ. Gandhaste somamavatu madāya raso'acyutaḥ.
May your drops be asked of you, O drops, harsh and mighty. May fragrance protect Soma for strength; may the undeceiving juice preserve it.

लेत थे इलमेन्त ओ थे सोम प्लन्त स्तय जोइनेद तो थे ब्रन्छ, लेत थे ब्रन्छ इथ थे प्लन्त मतुरे अन्द बे होले इथ थे प्लन्त। मय थे क्नोत ओ थे चने ग्रो ओउत ओ थे क्नोत, स्तय जोइनेद तो थे क्नोत, मतुरे अन्द बे ओने अन्द होले इथ थे त्रेए। सोम, स्पिरित ओ लिए, मय योउर रग्रन्चे अन्द एतेर्नल वितलित्य प्रोतेच्त थे उनित्य अन्द होलेनेस्स ओ लिए अमोन्ग अल्ल इत्स चोन्स्तितुएन्त पर्त्स।
Let the filament of the soma plant stay joined to the branch, let the branch with the plant mature and be whole with the plant. May the knot of the cane grow out of the knot, stay joined to the knot, mature and be one and whole with the tree. Soma, Spirit of life, may your fragrance and eternal vitality protect the unity and wholeness of life among all its constituent parts.

धानावन्तं करम्भिणमपू उ पवन्तमुक्थिनम। ल्न्द्र प्रातर्जुषस्व नः।
Dhānāvanta≈ karambhiṇamapū u pavantamukthinam. lndra prātarjuṣasva naḥ.
May the grain-bearing and the ear-bearing, the abundant and the freed, prosper for us; Indra, be gracious at dawn for us.

बृहदिन्द्राय गायत मरुतो वृत्रहन्तमम। येन ज्योतिरजनयन्नृतावृधो देवं देवाय जागृवि।
Bṛhadindrāya gāyata maruto vṛtrahantamam. Yena jyotirajanayannṛtāvṛdho deva≈ devāya jāgṛvi.
Sing for great Indra, for the Maruts, slayer of Vṛtra, by whom light was born; increasing truth, they invoked the god for the god.

आध्वर्योऽअद्रिभिः सुतं सोमं पवित्रऽआनय। पुनाहीन्द्राय पातवे।

O priest, bring hither the purified Soma obtained from hills; again for Indra, for the bearer of might.

ūpayāmagṛhīto'syaśvibhyā≈ tvā sarasvatyai tvendrāya tvā sutrāmṇa'eṣa te yoniraśvibhyā≈ tvā sarasvatyai tvendrāya tvā sutrāmṇe.
Taken and held by horses, to you Sarasvatī, to you Indra, O priest; this womb (source) is yours, horses bearing it— to you Sarasvatī, to you Indra, O priest.

प्राणपा मेऽ अपानपाश्चक्षुष्पाः श्रोत्रपाश्च मे। वाचो मे विश्वभेषजो मनसोऽसि विलायकः।
Prāṇapā me' apānapāścakṣuṣpāḥ śrotrapāśca me. Vāco me viśvabheṣajo manaso'si vilāyakaḥ.
May breath and apāna, eyes and ears be bound for me. Speech is the universal healer of mine; mind is the discerner.

मिग आश्विनकृतस्य ते सरस्वतिकृतस्येन्द्रेण सुत्राम्णा कृतस्य। ऊपहू उ तऽउपहू उ तस्य भक्षयामि।
mig āśvinakṛtasya te sarasvatikṛtasyendreṇa sutrāmṇā kṛtasya. ūpahū u ta'upahū u tasya bhakṣayāmi.
As of the doe made by the Aśvins, of that made by Sarasvatī, by Indra and by the priest— I call it, I invoke it, I consume it.

समिद्धऽइन्द्रऽउषसामनीके पुरोरुचा पूउर्वकृद्वावृधानः। त्रिभिर्देवैस्त्रिंम्शता वज्रबाहुर्जघान वृत्रं वि दुरो ववार।
Samiddha'indra'uṣasāmanīke purorucā pūurvakṛdvāvṛdhānaḥ. Tribhirdevaistri|mśatā vajrabāhurjaghāna vṛtra≈ vi duro vavāra.
Like blazing Indra at the edge of dawn, shining at the front, he increased (his might). With three gods — thirty‑fold, with vajra‑arms — he struck Vritra down, the hard foe.

ईडितो देवैर्हरिवांनऽअभिष्टिराजुह्वानो हविषा शर्धमानः। पुरन्दरो गोत्रभिद्वज्रबाहुरायातु यज्ञमुप नो जुषाणः।
∫Œito devairharivā|n'abhiṣṭirājuhvāno haviṣā śardhamānaḥ. Purandaro gotrabhidvajrabāhurāyātu yaj¤amupa no juṣāṇaḥ.
Pleasing to the gods, praised with desires, he offered oblations, seeking favor. Purandara, of noble race and vajra‑armed, may he bring the sacrifice to us with blessings.

जुषाणो बर्हिर्हरिवान नऽइन्द्रः प्राचीनंम सीदत प्रदिशा पृथिव्याः। ऊरुप्रथाः प्रथमानंम स्योनमादित्यैरक्तं वसुभिः सजोषाः।
Juṣāṇo barhirharivān na'indraḥ prācīna|m sīdat pradiśā pṛthivyāḥ. ūruprathāḥ prathamāna|m syonamādityairakta≈ vasubhiḥ sajoṣāḥ.
Praised with oblations, not Indra, he sat to the east of the earth. The foremost thighs, first indeed, united with the suns, red with wealth, rejoiced with the world.

ईन्द्रं दुरः कवष्यो धावमाना वृषाणं यन्तु जनयः सुपत्नीः। द्वारो देवीरभितो वि श्रयन्तांम सुवीरा वीरं प्रथमाना महोभिः।

आश्विना तेजसा चक्षुः प्राणेन सरस्वती वीर्यम। वाचेन्द्रो बलेनेन्द्राय दधुरिन्द्रियम।
āśvinā tejasā cakṣuḥ prāṇena sarasvatī vīryam. Vācendro balenendrāya dadhurindriyam.
The Ashvins endowed with brilliance, Sarasvatī with vital breath, gave valour. The lord of speech by force gave Indra the faculties.

गोमदूउ षु णासत्याश्वावद्यातमश्विन। वर्त्ती रुद्रा नृपाय्यम।
Gomadūu ṣu ṇāsatyāśvāvadyātamaśvina. Varttī rudrā nṛpāyyam.
May the cow’s abundant gift be for truth; may the Ashvins grant the best of remedies. May Rudra protect the king.

न यत्परो नान्तरऽ आदधर्षद वृषण्वसूउ। दुःशंम्सो मर्त्यो रिपुः।
Na yatparo nāntara' ādadharṣad vṛṣaṇvasūu. Duḥśa|mso martyo ripuḥ.
Not that which stands apart nor that which is within was perceived by the mighty—mortal man is the enemy of the wicked.

त नऽआ वोढमश्विना रयिं पिशङ्गसन्दृशम। धिष्ण्या वरिवोविदम।
Ta na'ā voŒhamaśvinā rayi≈ piśaΔgasandṛśam. Dhiṣṇyā varivovidam.
May the Ashvins not carry away from us the radiant, spotted one; may they, bestowers, grant abundant riches.

पावका नः सरस्वती व्जेभिर्वाजिनीवती। यज्ञं वष्टु धियावसुः।
Pāvakā naḥ sarasvatī vjebhirvājinīvatī. Yaj¤a≈ vaṣṭu dhiyāvasuḥ.
O purifier, may Sarasvatī with her steeds of praise be ours; may the sacrifice be strengthened by the divine intellect-gods.

चोदयित्री सूउनृतानां चेतन्ती सुमतीनाम। यज्ञं दधे सरस्वती।
Codayitrī sūunṛtānā≈ cetantī sumatīnām. Yaj¤a≈ dadhe sarasvatī.
Sarasvatī, awakener of the truthful and the good-minded, established the sacrifice for the wise.

महोऽअर्णः सरस्वती प्र चेतयति केतुना। धियो विश्वा विराजति।
Maho'arṇaḥ sarasvatī pra cetayati ketunā. Dhiyo viśvā virājati.
Great flowing Sarasvatī, roused by the banner, she rouses minds; all intellects shine forth.

ईन्द्रायाहि चित्रभानो सुताऽइमे त्वायवः। आण्वीभिस्तना पूउतासः।
īndrāyāhi citrabhāno sutā'ime tvāyavaḥ. āṇvībhistanā pūutāsaḥ.
Come to Indra, O bright-beaming ones; these are your sons, your powerful offspring, purified and heroic.

ईन्द्रायाहि धियेषितो विप्रजूउतः सुतावतः। ऊप ब्रह्माणि वाघतः।
īndrāyāhi dhiyeṣito viprajūutaḥ sutāvataḥ. ūpa brahmāṇi vāghataḥ.
Come to Indra, O set mind; O seer of the Brahmans, like a son—smite at the forms of the foes.

ईन्द्रायाहि तूउतुजानऽउप ब्रह्माणि हरिवः। सुते दधिष्व नश्चनः।
īndrāyāhi tūutujāna'upa brahmāṇi harivaḥ. Sute dadhiṣva naścanaḥ.
Come to Indra, O mighty band, akin to the Brahmans, O Hari-like; grant that the son may be steadfast and not perish.

आश्विना पिबतां मधु सरस्वत्या सजोषसा। ईन्द्रः सुत्रामा वृत्रहा जुषन्तां म सोम्यं मधु।
āśvinā pibatā≈ madhu sarasvatyā sajoṣasā. īndraḥ sutrāmā vṛtrahā juṣantā| m somya≈ madhu.
May the Ashvins drink the honey with Sarasvatī's delight; Indra, restrainer of bonds, slayer of Vṛtra, rejoice—may Soma be sweet.
