वृषा॑ सोम द्यु॒माँ अ॑सि॒ वृषा॑ देव॒ वृष॑व्रतः । वृषा॒ धर्मा॑णि दधिषे
vṛṣā soma dyumām̐ asi vṛṣā deva vṛṣavrataḥ vṛṣā dharmāṇi dadhiṣe
Bull Soma, you are the shining heaven, bull among gods, bull in vow; you uphold the righteous laws.

vṛṣṇaste vṛṣṇyaṃ śavo vṛṣā vanaṃ vṛṣā madaḥ satyaṃ vṛṣanvṛṣedasi
Your strength is strength, your offering the sacrificial beast, your bull the wood, your strength the mead; truly you, bull, mount the plain.

अश्वो॒ न च॑क्रदो॒ वृषा॒ सं गा इ॑न्दो॒ समर्व॑तः । वि नो॑ रा॒ये दुरो॑ वृधि
aśvo na cakrado vṛṣā saṃ gā indo samarvataḥ vi no rāye duro vṛdhi
The horse did not turn away; the bull, yoked, moved like Indra advancing; he increased strength for the difficult realm.

The herdsmen and the cows, Soma’s horses and the mighty stallions of Shukra roamed unprotected.

śumbhamānā ṛtāyubhirmṛjyamānā gabhastyoḥ pavante vāre avyaye
With swelling might they were loosened from ordained bonds; they sweep across the unchanging waters of the atmosphere.

They bestowed all riches, Soma and earthly treasures, the purifying winds of the mid-air.

From the all-pervading purifier arose their births; like the sun are these rays.

You will seek speechless utterance, purifier, in righteous ritual; the sun does not roar.

Indu, imbued and conscious, beloved of poets and minds, fashioned a swift steed like a chariot.

Grant us that sacred insight, as for the gods’ delight; for Indra-Indu, to drink the draught.

Desiring the sacred flow, purified by streams, the thoughtful ones cleansed; Indu comes with radiant songs.

Again the mighty waters, springing forth, produced mankind by voice; bestow a heroic refuge.

The roaring men struck down Indu’s ocean-horses; thoughtless ones perished, and gathered intellects were unprotected.

Those who fashioned limbs in vain, the sea-possessed Indu, are in the womb of untruth as fire is.

They strike with the thunderbolt; attentive minds they will test — the unthinking perish.

Indra, the Maruts, and the wind-bearing, intoxicated with the sweet (soma); the womb of ṛta (cosmic order) they have entered.

That speech-knowing praise surrounds you, O priests, and the seers observe; the generous ones honor you.

rasaṃ te mitro aryamā pibanti varuṇaḥ kave pavamānasya marutaḥ
Mitra and Aryaman drink your juice, Varuṇa and the poets; the Maruts purify it.

You, Soma, will renew the wise speech; Indra with a thousand steeds (or rays).

Thus with thousand‑bright splendour Soma spoke the mighty word; the renewed Indra bore it.

The renewed people of Indra are the foremost of men; beloved, you ruled the ocean of peoples.

Radiant with double light, bright with surrounding beams—compassionate—Soma, shining like the cows' foreheads.

They struck with their oblations, with gratifiers they invoked the prize; they settled like wild kine.

Soma, abundant in strength, came to auspiciousness; the seer sped through the air—may the holy sun be seen.
