indraḥ suteṣu someṣu kratuṃ punīta ukthyam vide vṛdhasya dakṣaso mahānhi ṣaḥ
Indra, in the streams of Soma, purified the power by holy hymns; he increased the mighty Daksha, the great seer of rites.

sa prathame vyomani devānāṃ sadane vṛdhaḥ supāraḥ suśravastamaḥ samapsujit
He first, in the heavens, was the mighty lord in the dwelling of the gods; the renowned, famed surpassing darkness, he reached the waters and was conquering.

तम॑ह्वे॒ वाज॑सातय॒ इन्द्रं॒ भरा॑य शु॒ष्मिण॑म् । भवा॑ नः सु॒म्ने अन्त॑मः॒ सखा॑ वृ॒धे
tamahve vājasātaya indraṃ bharāya śuṣmiṇam bhavā naḥ sumne antamaḥ sakhā vṛdhe
In that ritual chanting of the Vajasaatyas they bore Indra, the bearer of the light, to the subtle place; be our friend, O mighty one, protector of the final good.

इ॒यं त॑ इन्द्र गिर्वणो रा॒तिः क्ष॑रति सुन्व॒तः । म॒न्दा॒नो अ॒स्य ब॒र्हिषो॒ वि रा॑जसि
iyaṃ ta indra girvaṇo rātiḥ kṣarati sunvataḥ mandāno asya barhiṣo vi rājasi
This Indra speaks the hymn, the praise resounding, the powerful utterance sounding sweetly; his fervent praise is lofty in the ritual house.

nūnaṃ tadindra daddhi no yattvā sunvanta īmahe rayiṃ naścitramā bharā svarvidam
Truly Indra gave to us that which makes us strong, that which has been sung by those who are famous; the radiant wealth of the all-knower he bore.

stotā yatte vicarṣaṇiratipraśardhayadgiraḥ vayā ivānu rohate juṣanta yat
O praised one, you who stir the heights with eager striving, the mountain roars; thus he attains to us what we desire and joys.

pratnavajjanayā giraḥ śaṛṇudhī jariturhavam mademade vavakṣithā sukṛtvane
With eager voice the striving folk heard the mountain; attend, bring forth the oblation, invoke the libation for the joyous one.

क्रीळ॑न्त्यस्य सू॒नृता॒ आपो॒ न प्र॒वता॑ य॒तीः । अ॒या धि॒या य उ॒च्यते॒ पति॑र्दि॒वः
krīḷantyasya sūnṛtā āpo na pravatā yatīḥ ayā dhiyā ya ucyate patirdivaḥ
The waters play where the kine are not led; this thought that is called intelligence is the lord of the gods.

उ॒तो पति॒र्य उ॒च्यते॑ कृष्टी॒नामेक॒ इद्व॒शी । न॒मो॒वृ॒धैर॑व॒स्युभिः॑ सु॒ते र॑ण
uto patirya ucyate kṛṣṭīnāmeka idvaśī namovṛdhairavasyubhiḥ sute raṇa
Hence the lord is called the plougher of the earth for one who tends the fields by the right season; salutations to the mighty ones, the bestowers of strength.

स्तु॒हि श्रु॒तं वि॑प॒श्चितं॒ हरी॒ यस्य॑ प्रस॒क्षिणा॑ । गन्ता॑रा दा॒शुषो॑ गृ॒हं न॑म॒स्विनः॑
stuhi śrutaṃ vipaścitaṃ harī yasya prasakṣiṇā gantārā dāśuṣo gṛhaṃ namasvinaḥ
Praise heard, wisely conceived, whose hand is purified by sprinkling — the giver who frees the captive goes to the house, salutations to the vow-keepers.

tūtujāno mahemate'śvebhiḥ pruṣitapsubhiḥ ā yāhi yajñamāśubhiḥ śamiddhi te
O leader born of strength, come to us with your horses and vigorous waters; may that which is agreeable to the sacrifice bring you calm.

Indra, bestower of bliss, hold fast the praised wealth; may hearing bring ambrosial riches from the gods.

have tvā sūra udite have madhyaṃdine divaḥ juṣāṇa indra saptibhirna ā gahi
Invoke you, shining one, at the oblation—invoke you at the ritual's midst at dawn; may Indra, with sevenfold praise, not come empty-handed.

ā tū gahi pra tu drava matsvā sutasya gomataḥ tantuṃ tanuṣva pūrvyaṃ yathā vide
Come and take, bring near the flowing of the calf from the cow's milky strength; draw forth the former thread as one knows.

यच्छ॒क्रासि॑ परा॒वति॒ यद॑र्वा॒वति॑ वृत्रहन् । यद्वा॑ समु॒द्रे अन्ध॑सोऽवि॒तेद॑सि
yacchakrāsi parāvati yadarvāvati vṛtrahan yadvā samudre andhaso'vitedasi
What you have created surpasses, what you have struck down is Vritra; what you hurled into the sea did not vanish in darkness.

इन्द्रं॑ वर्धन्तु नो॒ गिर॒ इन्द्रं॑ सु॒तास॒ इन्द॑वः । इन्द्रे॑ ह॒विष्म॑ती॒र्विशो॑ अराणिषुः
indraṃ vardhantu no gira indraṃ sutāsa indavaḥ indre haviṣmatīrviśo arāṇiṣuḥ
May the hills increase Indra for us, may the strong-born Indra strengthen; Indra, may the offerings be mighty like far-reaching weapons.

tamidviprā avasyavaḥ pravatvatībhirūtibhiḥ indraṃ kṣoṇīravardhayanvayā iva
These seers, necessary and austere, with their brave utterances led Indra on like a banner raising him high.

त्रिक॑द्रुकेषु॒ चेत॑नं दे॒वासो॑ य॒ज्ञम॑त्नत । तमिद्व॑र्धन्तु नो॒ गिरः॑ स॒दावृ॑धम्
trikadrukeṣu cetanaṃ devāso yajñamatnata tamidvardhantu no giraḥ sadāvṛdham
In the threefold places the gods, mindful, attended to the sacrifice; may those hills increase for us, ever growing.

स्तो॒ता यत्ते॒ अनु॑व्रत उ॒क्थान्यृ॑तु॒था द॒धे । शुचिः॑ पाव॒क उ॑च्यते॒ सो अद्भु॑तः
stotā yatte anuvrata ukthānyṛtuthā dadhe śuciḥ pāvaka ucyate so adbhutaḥ
The praiser who follows your vow has placed hymns thus; the pure is called the purifier, wondrous indeed.

तदिद्रु॒द्रस्य॑ चेतति य॒ह्वं प्र॒त्नेषु॒ धाम॑सु । मनो॒ यत्रा॒ वि तद्द॒धुर्विचे॑तसः
tadidrudrasya cetati yahvaṃ pratneṣu dhāmasu mano yatrā vi taddadhurvicetasaḥ
That which awakens Rudra, the call dwells in the sacred abodes; where the mind goes, place the Yajñamantra in the understanding of the wise.

यदि॑ मे स॒ख्यमा॒वर॑ इ॒मस्य॑ पा॒ह्यन्ध॑सः । येन॒ विश्वा॒ अति॒ द्विषो॒ अता॑रिम
yadi me sakhyamāvara imasya pāhyandhasaḥ yena viśvā ati dviṣo atārima
If friendship protects me from blind fury, by which you surpassed all and turned away hate from the world.

क॒दा त॑ इन्द्र गिर्वणः स्तो॒ता भ॑वाति॒ शंत॑मः । क॒दा नो॒ गव्ये॒ अश्व्ये॒ वसौ॑ दधः
kadā ta indra girvaṇaḥ stotā bhavāti śaṃtamaḥ kadā no gavye aśvye vasau dadhaḥ
When does Indra's praise become tranquil and gentle? When for us the kine and horses sustain their wealth.

uta te suṣṭutā harī vṛṣaṇā vahato ratham ajuryasya madintamaṃ yamīmahe
May your well-being and joy carry the chariot of bulls and steeds; we invoke the city-guarding one for the midmost place.

tamīmahe puruṣṭutaṃ yahvaṃ pratnābhirūtibhiḥ ni barhiṣi priye sadadadha dvitā
We praise the mighty Yajna with brave utterers; in the offering and beloved rites may it be placed twofold.

वर्ध॑स्वा॒ सु पु॑रुष्टुत॒ ऋषि॑ष्टुताभिरू॒तिभिः॑ । धु॒क्षस्व॑ पि॒प्युषी॒मिष॒मवा॑ च नः
vardhasvā su puruṣṭuta ṛṣiṣṭutābhirūtibhiḥ dhukṣasva pipyuṣīmiṣamavā ca naḥ
Increase, O puissant praised one, by the hymns of seers; grant us the desired riches and remove our needs.

इन्द्र॒ त्वम॑वि॒तेद॑सी॒त्था स्तु॑व॒तो अ॑द्रिवः । ऋ॒तादि॑यर्मि ते॒ धियं॑ मनो॒युज॑म्
indra tvamavitedasītthā stuvato adrivaḥ ṛtādiyarmi te dhiyaṃ manoyujam
You Indra struck down the foes; hymns of praise are like mountains. I place mind and understanding as offerings to you.

iha tyā sadhamādyā yujānaḥ somapītaye harī indra pratadvasū abhi svara
Here the comrades prepare the rite for drinking Soma; Indra, the joyous, came to the inward abode with treasure.

अ॒भि स्व॑रन्तु॒ ये तव॑ रु॒द्रासः॑ सक्षत॒ श्रिय॑म् । उ॒तो म॒रुत्व॑ती॒र्विशो॑ अ॒भि प्रयः॑
abhi svarantu ye tava rudrāsaḥ sakṣata śriyam uto marutvatīrviśo abhi prayaḥ
May those who are your Rudras be endowed with wealth directly; like Maruts they proceed everywhere to our favor.

imā asya pratūrtayaḥ padaṃ juṣanta yaddivi nābhā yajñasya saṃ dadhuryathā vide
These offerings recite the paths of the sky that are praised; they placed the navel of the sacrifice as one knows.

अ॒यं दी॒र्घाय॒ चक्ष॑से॒ प्राचि॑ प्रय॒त्य॑ध्व॒रे । मिमी॑ते य॒ज्ञमा॑नु॒षग्वि॒चक्ष्य॑
ayaṃ dīrghāya cakṣase prāci prayatyadhvare mimīte yajñamānuṣagvicakṣya
This long-sighted one looks eastward and returns by the way; thus I behold the course of the sacrifice and the rites of the people.

वृषा॒यमि॑न्द्र ते॒ रथ॑ उ॒तो ते॒ वृष॑णा॒ हरी॑ । वृषा॒ त्वं श॑तक्रतो॒ वृषा॒ हवः॑
vṛṣāyamindra te ratha uto te vṛṣaṇā harī vṛṣā tvaṃ śatakrato vṛṣā havaḥ
O mighty Indra, you are the bull; your chariot goes forth, you are taken by bulls. Bull are you, hundred‑sacrificing, bull of the offering.

वृषा॒ ग्रावा॒ वृषा॒ मदो॒ वृषा॒ सोमो॑ अ॒यं सु॒तः । वृषा॑ य॒ज्ञो यमिन्व॑सि॒ वृषा॒ हवः॑
vṛṣā grāvā vṛṣā mado vṛṣā somo ayaṃ sutaḥ vṛṣā yajño yaminvasi vṛṣā havaḥ
Bull of kine, bull of cows, bull of pride, this Soma is the well‑sired one. Bull is the sacrifice; you restrain (or protect); bull of the offering.

वृषा॑ त्वा॒ वृष॑णं हुवे॒ वज्रि॑ञ्चि॒त्राभि॑रू॒तिभिः॑ । वा॒वन्थ॒ हि प्रति॑ष्टुतिं॒ वृषा॒ हवः॑
vṛṣā tvā vṛṣaṇaṃ huve vajriñcitrābhirūtibhiḥ vāvantha hi pratiṣṭutiṃ vṛṣā havaḥ
I invoke you as the bull, with bull‑like splendours and famed forms. Indeed, you established praise with bulls; bull of the offering.
