व॒नेम॑ पू॒र्वीर॒र्यो म॑नी॒षा अ॒ग्निः सु॒शोको॒ विश्वा॑न्यश्याः
vanema pūrvīraryo manīṣā agniḥ suśoko viśvānyaśyāḥ
In the forest the earlier wise ones—Agni, beloved, the auspicious—beheld all things.

He fixed these divine vows, shaping the birth of mortal man.

garbho yo apāṃ garbho vanānāṃ garbhaśca sthātāṃ garbhaścarathām
The womb of waters, the womb of forests, the womb that stood firm, the moving womb—these were placed.

अद्रौ॑ चिदस्मा अ॒न्तर्दु॑रो॒णे वि॒शां न विश्वो॑ अ॒मृतः॑ स्वा॒धीः
adrau cidasmā antarduroṇe viśāṃ na viśvo amṛtaḥ svādhīḥ
Within mountains, in inner caves, not all were immortal; the self-sacrifice (svadhā) was deathless for the brave.

स हि क्ष॒पावा॑ँ अ॒ग्नी र॑यी॒णां दाश॒द्यो अ॑स्मा॒ अरं॑ सू॒क्तैः
sa hi kṣapāvām̐ agnī rayīṇāṃ dāśadyo asmā araṃ sūktaiḥ
He indeed, Agni, protector of the pastures, adorned us with hymns as a team of cattle.

ए॒ता चि॑कित्वो॒ भूमा॒ नि पा॑हि दे॒वानां॒ जन्म॒ मर्ता॑ँश्च वि॒द्वान्
etā cikitvo bhūmā ni pāhi devānāṃ janma martām̐śca vidvān
These rites he set in the earth; preserve them, O wise ones, for the birth of gods and mortals.

वर्धा॒न्यं पू॒र्वीः क्ष॒पो विरू॑पाः स्था॒तुश्च॒ रथ॑मृ॒तप्र॑वीतम्
vardhānyaṃ pūrvīḥ kṣapo virūpāḥ sthātuśca rathamṛtapravītam
May the earlier vigorous, mighty ones increase; may the virūpa (powerful) stand, may the chariot of immortal skill arrive.

अरा॑धि॒ होता॒ स्व१॒॑र्निष॑त्तः कृ॒ण्वन्विश्वा॒न्यपां॑सि स॒त्या
arādhi hotā sva1rniṣattaḥ kṛṇvanviśvānyapāṃsi satyā
The priest, having struck the oblation, pours forth gold-like offerings; he makes all waters true.

गोषु॒ प्रश॑स्तिं॒ वने॑षु धिषे॒ भर॑न्त॒ विश्वे॑ ब॒लिं स्व॑र्णः
goṣu praśastiṃ vaneṣu dhiṣe bharanta viśve baliṃ svarṇaḥ
In the cattle and praised in the forests they place thought; all-strength (Svarṇa) bears the oblation.

वि त्वा॒ नरः॑ पुरु॒त्रा स॑पर्यन्पि॒तुर्न जिव्रे॒र्वि वेदो॑ भरन्त
vi tvā naraḥ purutrā saparyanpiturna jivrervi vedo bharanta
A man, though born of many, does not carry what the Vedas bear for the father; even surrounded, he does not live by them.

सा॒धुर्न गृ॒ध्नुरस्ते॑व॒ शूरो॒ याते॑व भी॒मस्त्वे॒षः स॒मत्सु॑
sādhurna gṛdhnurasteva śūro yāteva bhīmastveṣaḥ samatsu
Do not seize, O brave one; may that fearful (thing) be even among you in equality.
