गोसहस्रप्रदानं च वदामि शृणु सुव्रत। गवां सहस्रमादाय सवत्सं सगुणं शुभम।।
gosahasrapradānaṃ ca vadāmi śṛṇu suvrata| gavāṃ sahasramādāya savatsaṃ saguṇaṃ śubham||
Sanatkumāra said: O sage of good holy rites, I shall mention the rite of gifting a thousand cows.

तास त्व अभ्यर्च्य यथाशास्त्रम अष्टौ सम्यक्प्रयत्नतः। तासां शृङ्गाणि हेम्नाथ प्रतिनिष्केण बन्धयेत।।
tās tv abhyarcya yathāśāstram aṣṭau samyakprayatnataḥ| tāsāṃ śṛṅgāṇi hemnātha pratiniṣkeṇa bandhayet||
Sanatkumāra said: O sage of good holy rites, I shall mention the rite of gifting a thousand cows.

खुरांश्च रजतेनैव बन्दयेत्कण्ठदेसतः। प्रतिनिष्केण कर्तव्यं कर्णे वज्रं च शोभनम।।
khurāṃśca rajatenaiva bandayetkaṇṭhadesataḥ| pratiniṣkeṇa kartavyaṃ karṇe vajraṃ ca śobhanam||
Sanatkumāra said: The hoofs shall be covered with silver. The neck shall be tied round with a gold coin suspended from it. A splendid diamond shall adorn the ears. These shall be dedicated to Śiva and gifts shall be offered severally to the brahmins; each being given ten gold coins, or five, two and a half or one and a quarter gold coins or one niṣka in accordance with one’s wealth. Or gold coins alone shall be offered. A pair of good clothes shall be offered to the brahmins.

शिवाय दद्याद्विप्रेभ्यो दक्षिणां च पृथक्पृथक। दशनिष्कं तदर्धं वा तस्यार्धार्धमथापि वा।।
śivāya dadyādviprebhyo dakṣiṇāṃ ca pṛthakpṛthak| daśaniṣkaṃ tadardhaṃ vā tasyārdhārdhamathāpi vā||
Sanatkumāra said: The hoofs shall be covered with silver. The neck shall be tied round with a gold coin suspended from it. A splendid diamond shall adorn the ears. गावश्चाराध्य यत्नेन दातव्याः सुमनोरमाः। एवं दत्त्वा विधानेन शिवमभ्यर्च्य संकरम।।
gāvaścārādhya yatnena dātavyāḥ sumanoramāḥ| evaṃ dattvā vidhānena śivamabhyarcya saṃkaram||
Sanatkumāra said: The cows should be propitiated and given as gifts. They must be beautiful. After giving the gift duly the devotee shall worship lord Siva. Thereafter, he shall repeat the excellent hymn of cows precisely. Cows are continuously in front of me.

जपेदग्रे यथान्यायं गवां स्तवमनुत्तमम। गावो ममाग्रतो नित्यं गावो नः पृष्ठतस्तथा।।
japedagre yathānyāyaṃ gavāṃ stavamanuttamam| gāvo mamāgrato nityaṃ gāvo naḥ pṛṣṭhatastathā||
