अ॒या वी॒ती परि॑ स्रव॒ यस्त॑ इन्दो॒ मदे॒ष्वा । अ॒वाह॑न्नव॒तीर्नव॑
ayā vītī pari srava yasta indo madeṣvā avāhannavatīrnava
This path surrounds the streams by which Indra pours in the meads; he summoned nine new ones.

puraḥ sadya itthādhiye divodāsāya śambaram adha tyaṃ turvaśaṃ yadum
Before, at once, he established the contest for the sky's bounty, bringing the prize; that powerful troupe of Turvaśa came.

Around him yoked horses, horse-knowers, cows and bulls, Indra rich in gold; the swift rivers with a thousand streams.

May your purified air be holy upon us; we choose to make you our companion.

ये ते॑ प॒वित्र॑मू॒र्मयो॑ऽभि॒क्षर॑न्ति॒ धार॑या । तेभि॑र्नः सोम मृळय
ye te pavitramūrmayo'bhikṣaranti dhārayā tebhirnaḥ soma mṛḷaya
Those who touch your holy brightness with the stream, by the channel, O Soma, refresh us.

He brought us again the royal treasure, the heroic store; Soma, lord from every side.

etamu tyaṃ daśa kṣipo mṛjanti sindhumātaram samādityebhirakhyata
Thus they cast ten darts; they sprinkled the river-mother with ointment. They were revealed among the equal suns.

समिन्द्रे॑णो॒त वा॒युना॑ सु॒त ए॑ति प॒वित्र॒ आ । सं सूर्य॑स्य र॒श्मिभिः॑
samindreṇota vāyunā suta eti pavitra ā saṃ sūryasya raśmibhiḥ
By Indra's might or by the wind, the purified one comes; he is sanctified by the rays of the sun.

May his bounties be ours—by Vayu, by Pushan—the honeyed purified; fair with Mitra and Varuna.

uccā te jātamandhaso divi ṣadbhūmyā dade ugraṃ śarma mahi śravaḥ
High was your birth, blind to evil, you gave earth to the radiant ones; fierce is the shelter, great is the fame.

By this, all others of men came to the heavens; they settled us in forests.

May he be for Indra to be worshipped, for Varuna, for the Maruts; the rains poured around the streams.

upo ṣu jātamapturaṃ gobhirbhaṅgaṃ pariṣkṛtam induṃ devā ayāsiṣuḥ
In the lofty pastures the born bulls, with the cows, made ready; the gods placed the moon as their labor.

tamidvardhantu no giro vatsaṃ saṃśiśvarīriva ya indrasya hṛdaṃsaniḥ
May their speech increase for us like a young calf, like a living body; the one who is Indra’s heart-born.

arṣā ṇaḥ soma śaṃ gave dhukṣasva pipyuṣīmiṣam vardhā samudramukthyam
O seers, pour Soma’s grace upon the cow-like one; increase the eager, pleasant draught, the ocean freed.

Pavamana, born anew, radiant and unparalleled in heaven; thy light is great, the universal Vasishvanar.

O king, the relish of Pavamana stirred up lofty joy; he pours forth bounty unrestrained.

pavamāna rasastava dakṣo vi rājati dyumān jyotirviśvaṃ svardṛśe
Pavamana’s juice, adept, makes the heavens shine; the light reveals the world to the seer.

यस्ते॒ मदो॒ वरे॑ण्य॒स्तेना॑ पव॒स्वान्ध॑सा । दे॒वा॒वीर॑घशंस॒हा
yaste mado vareṇyastenā pavasvāndhasā devāvīraghaśaṃsahā
Whoever among you is excellent in bliss, by that Pavamana’s guidance, O devotees, the gods praise the heroes.

jaghnirvṛtramamitriyaṃ sasnirvājaṃ divedive goṣā u aśvasā asi
He struck down Vritra, the foe; he removed obstacle in the course of days; thou art the strength of cattle, the breath of horses.

सम्मि॑श्लो अरु॒षो भ॑व सूप॒स्थाभि॒र्न धे॒नुभिः॑ । सीद॑ञ्छ्ये॒नो न योनि॒मा
sammiślo aruṣo bhava sūpasthābhirna dhenubhiḥ sīdañchyeno na yonimā
Be united, O fierce one, among the high-seat women with cows and kine; sit on the heroic seat, not in the womb.

sa pavasva ya āvithendraṃ vṛtrāya hantave vavrivāṃsaṃ mahīrapaḥ
He, the Pavamana, came to you to slay Vritra for Indra; he filled the earth-born waters with might.

सु॒वीरा॑सो व॒यं धना॒ जये॑म सोम मीढ्वः । पु॒ना॒नो व॑र्ध नो॒ गिरः॑
suvīrāso vayaṃ dhanā jayema soma mīḍhvaḥ punāno vardha no giraḥ
Mighty in juice are we; Soma, let us conquer wealth; may our song increase once more, O speech.

त्वोता॑स॒स्तवाव॑सा॒ स्याम॑ व॒न्वन्त॑ आ॒मुरः॑ । सोम॑ व्र॒तेषु॑ जागृहि
tvotāsastavāvasā syāma vanvanta āmuraḥ soma vrateṣu jāgṛhi
From thy stores may we be refreshed; may we be prosperous among the people; Soma, be wakeful in our rites.

अ॒प॒घ्नन्प॑वते॒ मृधोऽप॒ सोमो॒ अरा॑व्णः । गच्छ॒न्निन्द्र॑स्य निष्कृ॒तम्
apaghnanpavate mṛdho'pa somo arāvṇaḥ gacchannindrasya niṣkṛtam
May not the gentle Pavamana harm the waters; Soma, go to Indra’s liberated one.

Bear for us the great raiment, Pavamana; humble one, cast forth courage; the chariot’s lord, renowned in hero-strength.

Not a hundredfold was thy heart taken away, O mighty one; what the many gave was not thy mouth’s portion.

O Pavamana, rich in bulls, grant us fame among people; destroy all our enemies everywhere.

asya te sakhye vayaṃ tavendo dyumna uttame sāsahyāma pṛtanyataḥ
In thy companionship are we, O heavenly one, to thy highest sky; may the assembly of friends be near the people.

या ते॑ भी॒मान्यायु॑धा ति॒ग्मानि॒ सन्ति॒ धूर्व॑णे । रक्षा॑ समस्य नो नि॒दः
yā te bhīmānyāyudhā tigmāni santi dhūrvaṇe rakṣā samasya no nidaḥ
Those terrible weapons of thine are sharp, established on the pole; defend and remove for us the foe.
