ततो नारायणो देवस्तस्मै सर्वं प्रदाय वै। कालयोगेन विश्वत्मा समं चक्रे ऽथ तुंबरोः।।
tato nārāyaṇo devastasmai sarvaṃ pradāya vai| kālayogena viśvatmā samaṃ cakre 'tha tuṃbaroḥ||
Mārkaṇḍeya said: Thereafter, lord Nārāyaṇa, the soul of the universe gave everything to Nārada and made him equal to Tumburu in due course of time.

नारदं मुनिशार्दूलमेवं वृत्तमभूत्पुरा। नारायणस्य गीतानां गानं श्रेष्ठं पुनः पुनः।।
nāradaṃ muniśārdūlamevaṃ vṛttamabhūtpurā| nārāyaṇasya gītānāṃ gānaṃ śreṣṭhaṃ punaḥ punaḥ||
Mārkaṇḍeya said: He made Nārada the leading sage like this. This incident happened formerly. The singing of Nārāyaṇa’s songs again and again is an excellent thing.

गानेनाराधितो विष्णुः सत्कीर्ति ज्ञानवर्चसी। ददाति तुष्टिं स्थानं च यथासौ कौशिकस्य वै।।
gānenārādhito viṣṇuḥ satkīrti jñānavarcasī| dadāti tuṣṭiṃ sthānaṃ ca yathāsau kauśikasya vai||
Mārkaṇḍeya said: Viṣṇu who is propitiated with songs, grants excellent renown, wisdom, refulgence, satisfaction and abode as it happened to Kauśika.
The glory of Viṣṇu - Verse 4

पद्माक्षप्रभृतीनां च संसिद्धिं प्रददौ हरिः। तस्मात्त्वया महाराज विष्णुक्षत्रे विशेषतः।।
padmākṣaprabhṛtīnāṃ ca saṃsiddhiṃ pradadau hariḥ| tasmāttvayā mahārāja viṣṇukṣatre viśeṣataḥ||
Mārkaṇḍeya said: Viṣṇu granted excellent Siddhi to Padmākṣa and others. Hence, O king, the following should be performed by you in the holy centre of Viṣṇu in particular, viz.—worship, singing, dance, the instrumental music and other festivities. O king, this should be always performed by you along with the persons who are the devotees of Viṣṇu.

अर्चनं गाननृत्याद्यं वाद्योत्सवसमन्वितम। कर्तव्यं विष्णुभक्तैर्हि पुरुषैरनिशं नृप।।
arcanaṃ gānanṛtyādyaṃ vādyotsavasamanvitam| kartavyaṃ viṣṇubhaktairhi puruṣairaniśaṃ nṛpa||
Mārkaṇḍeya said: Viṣṇu granted excellent Siddhi to Padmākṣa and others. Hence, O king, the following should be performed by you in the holy centre of Viṣṇu in particular, viz.—worship, singing, dance, the instrumental music and other festivities. O king, this should be always performed by you along with the persons who are the devotees of Viṣṇu.

श्रोतव्यं च सदा नित्यं श्रोतव्योसौ हरिस्तथा। विष्णुक्षेत्रे तु यो विद्वान कारयेद्भक्तिसंयुतः।।
śrotavyaṃ ca sadā nityaṃ śrotavyosau haristathā| viṣṇukṣetre tu yo vidvān kārayedbhaktisaṃyutaḥ||
Mārkaṇḍeya said: This must always be heard. Viṣṇu should always be praised. The scholar who undertakes songs, dances, narratives and discourses on Viṣṇu in the holy centres of Viṣṇu with devotion acquires the memory of previous births, intellect, awareness at the time of death and identity with Viṣṇu. O leading king, this is true.

गाननृत्यादिकं चैव विष्ण्वाख्यानां कथां तथा। जतिस्मृतिं च मेधां च तथैवोपरमे स्मृतिम।।
