ब्रह्मोवाच। ज्ञातोऽसि मेऽद्य सुचिरान्ननु देहभाजां न ज्ञायते भगवतो गतिरित्यवद्यम्। नान्यत्त्वदस्ति भगवन्नपि तन्न शुद्धं मायागुणव्यतिकराद्यदुरुर्विभासि
Brahma said: "Today, you are known to me; yet, the path of the Lord is not known to those who possess a body. There is nothing other than you, O Lord; even that is not pure, as it is influenced by the qualities of illusion."

रूपं यदेतदवबोधरसोदयेन शश्वन्निवृत्ततमसः सदनुग्रहाय। आदौ गृहीतमवतारशतैकबीजं यन्नाभिपद्मभवनादहमाविरासम्
The form that is revealed through the essence of knowledge, which is always free from the deepest darkness, is for the sake of grace. In the beginning, I took this form, which is the seed of a hundred incarnations, from the lotus of the navel.

Beyond all, O Lord, is your true form, which is pure bliss, unconditioned and unmanifest. I see the one who creates the universe as one, and I am dependent on that essence, which is the essence of all beings and senses.

This world, auspicious for the auspicious, is revealed to us in meditation. We bow to that Bhagavān, who is not disregarded by the devotees, even amidst the sufferings of hell.

ये तु त्वदीयचरणाम्बुजकोशगन्धं जिघ्रन्ति कर्णविवरैः श्रुतिवातनीतम्। भक्त्या गृहीतचरणः परया च तेषां नापैषि नाथ हृदयाम्बुरुहात्स्वपुंसाम्
Those who smell the fragrance of Your lotus feet through their ears, which are filled with the sound of scriptures, are firmly devoted to Your feet. O Lord, they do not fall from the lotus of their hearts.

तावद्भयं द्रविणदेहसुहृन्निमित्तं शोकः स्पृहा परिभवो विपुलश्च लोभः। तावन्ममेत्यसदवग्रह आर्तिमूलं यावन्न तेऽङ्घ्रिमभयं प्रवृणीत लोकः
As long as there is fear due to the association with friends, grief, desire, and the overwhelming greed, the world does not take refuge in Your feet, which are the source of liberation from suffering.

दैवेन ते हतधियो भवतः प्रसङ्गात् सर्वाशुभोपशमनाद्विमुखेन्द्रिया ये। कुर्वन्ति कामसुखलेशलवाय दीनाः लोभाभिभूतमनसोऽकुशलानि शश्वत्
By Your divine grace, those whose intellects are destroyed by Your association, who are always engaged in sensual pleasures, are overwhelmed by greed and perform unskillful actions.

क्षुत्तृट् त्रिधातुभिरिमा मुहुरर्द्यमानाः शीतोष्णवातवरषैरितरेतराच्च। कामाग्निनाच्युत रुषा च सुदुर्भरेण सम्पश्यतो मन उरुक्रम सीदते मे
The body is tormented by hunger and thirst, repeatedly afflicted by the changing seasons and other adversities. O Achyuta, the fire of desire and the burden of difficulties make my mind, which contemplates You, tremble.

यावत्पृथक्त्वमिदमात्मन इन्द्रियार्थ- मायाबलं भगवतो जन ईश पश्येत्। तावन्न संसृतिरसौ प्रतिसङ्क्रमेत व्यर्थापि दुःखनिवहं वहती क्रियार्था
As long as this individuality exists, may one see the Lord, who is the source of all, through the power of illusion and the senses. Until then, one does not escape from the cycle of birth and death, carrying the burden of suffering in vain.

अह्न्यापृतार्तकरणा निशि निःशयाना नानामनोरथधिया क्षणभग्ननिद्राः। दैवाहतार्थरचना ऋषयोऽपि देव युष्मत्प्रसङ्गविमुखा इह संसरन्ति
In the day, the distressed are engaged in various desires, and at night, they are lost in deep sleep, their minds shattered. Even the sages, affected by divine influences, are caught in the cycle of existence, turning away from the discussions of You.

त्वयैवेदं विसृष्टं ते स्थितं त्वयि लयं यास्यति। तत्त्वं वेत्सि न चान्योऽस्ति विदितस्तव गोचरः॥
tvayaivedaṁ visṛṣṭaṁ te sthitaṁ tvayi layaṁ yāsyati tat tvaṁ vetsi na cānyo'sti viditas tava gocaraḥ
This universe is created by You, it is maintained in You, and it will merge into You. You alone know all this. No one else can know You, as You are beyond the range of others' perception.

नातिप्रसीदति तथोपचितोपचारै- राराधितः सुरगणैर्हृदि बद्धकामैः। यत्सर्वभूतदययासदलभ्ययैको नानाजनेष्ववहितः सुहृदन्तरात्मा
He who is worshipped with various offerings does not become overly pleased in the hearts of those bound by desires. The one who is compassionate to all beings is not troubled by the multitude of people, being the inner friend of all.

पुंसामतो विविधकर्मभिरध्वराद्यैः दानेन चोग्रतपसा व्रतचर्यया च। आराधनं भगवतस्तव सत्क्रियार्थो धर्मोऽर्पितः कर्हिचिद्ध्रियते न यत्र
Among men, various actions such as sacrifices, charity, and severe austerities are performed. The worship of the Lord, which is the essence of righteousness, is never abandoned, where there is no true devotion.

Salutations to the Supreme Being, who is the essence of eternal form, the dispeller of ignorance, and the source of all creation, maintenance, and dissolution in the universe.

यस्यावतारगुणकर्मविडम्बनानि नामानि येऽसुविगमे विवशा गृणन्ति। ते नैकजन्मशमलं सहसैव हित्वा संयान्त्यपावृतमृतं तमजं प्रपद्ये
Those who sing the names of the Lord, who is the embodiment of all avatars, qualities, and actions, and who are overwhelmed by the fleeting nature of life, they, abandoning the impurities of countless births, attain the eternal, unmanifested essence. I bow to that Lord.

यो वा अहं च गिरिशश्च विभुः स्वयं च स्थित्युद्भवप्रलयहेतव आत्ममूलम्। भित्त्वा त्रिपाद्ववृध एक उरुप्ररोह- स्तस्मै नमो भगवते भुवनद्रुमाय
He who is the root of all existence, the cause of creation, sustenance, and dissolution, and who is the Supreme Being, I bow to Him, who is the source of all beings and who has manifested in three parts.

लोको विकर्मनिरतः कुशले प्रमत्तः कर्मण्ययं त्वदुदिते भवदर्चने स्वे। यस्तावदस्य बलवानिह जीविताशां सद्यश्छिनत्त्यनिमिषाय नमोऽस्तु तस्मै
The world, engaged in sinful activities, is intoxicated by its own actions. He who is strong enough to cut off the life-force of such a person, I bow to Him, who is the embodiment of your worship.

From whom I fear even while seated in the middle of the universe, honored by all beings, I bow to that Lord, who is the supreme sacrifice and the essence of all austerities.

तिर्यङ्मनुष्यविबुधादिषु जीवयोनि- ष्वात्मेच्छयाऽऽत्मकृतसेतुपरीप्सया यः। रेमे निरस्तरतिरप्यवरुद्धदेह- स्तस्मै नमो भगवते पुरुषोत्तमाय
He who, desiring to cross the ocean of existence, takes birth in various forms, yet remains unaffected by the body, I bow to that Lord, the Supreme Person.

योऽविद्ययानुपहतोऽपि दशार्धवृत्त्या निद्रामुवाह जठरीकृतलोकयात्रः। अन्तर्जलेऽहिकशिपुस्पर्शानुकूलां भीमोर्मिमालिनि जनस्य सुखं विवृण्वन्
Even though afflicted by ignorance, he who bears the burden of the world with a tenth of his essence, brings forth the bliss of the people, like a serpent in water.

यन्नाभिपद्मभवनादहमासमीड्य लोकत्रयोपकरणो यदनुग्रहेण। तस्मै नमस्त उदरस्थभवाय योग- निद्रावसानविकसन्नलिनेक्षणाय
To that being, who is the support of the three worlds, and who grants grace from the lotus of the navel, I bow down, for he is the one who awakens the yogic sleep within.

सोऽयं समस्तजगतां सुहृदेक आत्मा सत्त्वेन यन्मृडयते भगवान् भगेन। तेनैव मे दृशमनुस्पृशताद्यथाहं स्रक्ष्यामि पूर्ववदिदं प्रणतप्रियोऽसौ
This one, the sole friend of all beings, is the self that pervades everything; by his grace, the Lord, who is the embodiment of goodness, protects me as before.

एष प्रपन्नवरदो रमयाऽऽत्मशक्त्या यद्यत्करिष्यति गृहीतगुणावतारः। तस्मिन् स्वविक्रममिदं सृजतोऽपि चेतो युञ्जीत कर्मशमलं च यथा विजह्याम्
This one, who grants boons to the surrendered, with his own power, whatever he wishes to do, let the mind be engaged in that, and let me be free from sinful actions.

From the navel of the being, whose consciousness is the ocean of knowledge, I reveal this wondrous form, may my words not be in vain, as I express the essence of the scriptures.

सोऽसावदभ्रकरुणो भगवान् विवृद्ध- प्रेमस्मितेन नयनाम्बुरुहं विजृम्भन्। उत्थाय विश्वविजयाय च नो विषादं माध्व्या गिरापनयतात्पुरुषः पुराणः
That compassionate Lord, with a smile of growing love, opens the lotus of his eyes. Rising for the victory of the universe, he does not allow us to be despondent, O ancient sage.

यच्चकर्थाङ्ग मत्स्तोत्रं मत्कथाभ्युदयाङ्कितम्। यद्वा तपसि ते निष्ठा स एष मदनुग्रहः
Whatever you have done, O my devotee, in my praise, or in the recounting of my glories, or your steadfastness in penance, this is my grace upon you.

I am pleased, may you achieve auspiciousness, with the desire for victory over the worlds. You have praised the quality-less, while describing the quality-filled.

Through charity, austerity, sacrifices, and meditation, the highest good for men is attained by My satisfaction, as understood by the wise.

अहमात्माऽऽत्मनां धातः प्रेष्ठः सन् प्रेयसामपि। अतो मयि रतिं कुर्याद्देहादिर्यत्कृते प्रियः
I, the supreme self of all beings, am the dearest of all that is loved. Therefore, one should develop affection for Me, for the sake of the body and others.

सर्ववेदमयेनेदमात्मनाऽऽत्माऽऽत्मयोनिना। प्रजाः सृज यथा पूर्वं याश्च मय्यनुशेरते
This universe, pervaded by all the Vedas, is created by the self, the supreme self. The beings are created as before, and they reside in Me.

मैत्रेय उवाच। तस्मा एवं जगत्स्रष्ट्रे प्रधानपुरुषेश्वरः। व्यज्येदं स्वेन रूपेण कञ्जनाभस्तिरोदधे
Maitreya said: Thus, the supreme person who creates the universe, manifests in His own form, and then conceals Himself.
