१-१६ अथर्वा। १ दिशः, २-३ वीरुधः, ४ मरुत्पर्जन्यौ, ५-१० मरुतः आपः, ११ प्रजापतिः, स्तनयित्नुः, १२ वरुणः, १३-१५ मण्डूकाः पितरश्च, १६ वातः। त्रिष्टुप्, १-२, ५ विराड् जगति, ४ विराट् पुरस्ताद्बृहती, ७, १३ अनुष्टुप्, ९ पथ्यापङ्क्तिः, १० भुरिक्, १२ पञ्चपदानुष्टुब्गर्भा भुरिक्, १५ शंकुमत्यनुष्टुप्। स॒मुत्प॑तन्तु प्र॒दिशो॑ नभ॑स्वतीः॒ सम॒भ्राणि॒ वात॑जूतानि यन्तु । म॒ह॒ऋ॒ष॒भस्य॒ नद॑तो॒ नभ॑स्वतो वा॒श्रा आपः॑ पृथि॒वीं त॑र्पयन्तु ॥१॥
samutpatantu pradiśo nabhasvatīḥ samabhrāṇi vātajūtāni yantu. mahaṛṣabhasya nadato nabhasvato vāśrā āpaḥ pṛthivīṃ tarpayantu.
Let the quarters of the sky arise, wind-borne; let the cloud-masses driven by Vāta set forth. May the bellowing, mighty bull—Nabhasvat—release the cows, the waters, to satisfy the earth.

समी॑क्षयन्तु तवि॒षाः सु॒दान॑वो॒ ऽपां रसा॒ ओष॑धीभिः सचन्ताम्। व॒र्षस्य॒ सर्गा॑ महयन्तु॒ भूमिं॒ पृथ॑ग् जायन्ता॒मोष॑धयो वि॒श्वरू॑पाः ॥२॥
samīkṣayantu taviṣāḥ sudānavo ’pāṃ rasā oṣadhībhiḥ sacantām. varṣasya sargā mahayantu bhūmiṃ pṛthag jāyantām oṣadhayo viśvarūpāḥ.
Let the mighty, bountiful ones look upon us; let the saps of the waters unite with the herbs. Let the outpourings of rain gladden the earth; let the herbs be born diverse in form.

समी॑क्षयस्व॒ गाय॑तो॒ नभां॑स्य॒पां वेगा॑सः॒ पृथ॒गुद् वि॑जन्ताम्। व॒र्षस्य॒ सर्गा॑ महयन्तु॒ भूमिं॑ पृथ॑ग् जायन्तां वी॒रुधो॑ वि॒श्वरू॑पाः ॥३॥
samīkṣayasva gāyato nabhāṃsy apāṃ vegāsaḥ pṛthag ud vijantām. varṣasya sargā mahayantu bhūmiṃ pṛthag jāyantāṃ vīrudho viśvarūpāḥ.
Behold, as they sing, the midregions; let the torrents of the waters burst forth apart. Let the outpourings of rain gladden the earth; let the plants be born, diverse in form.

gaṇās tv opa gāyantu mārutāḥ parjanya ghoṣiṇaḥ pṛthak. sargā varṣasya varṣato varṣantu pṛthivī manu.
Let your troops, O Maruts, sing around you; thunderous Parjanya, each apart. As the rain pours, let the showers fall following the earth.

उदी॑रयत मरुतः समुद्र॒तस्त्वे॒षो अ॒र्को नभ॒ उत् पा॑तयाथ । म॒ह॒ऋ॒ष॒भस्य॒ नद॑तो॒ नभ॑स्वतो वा॒श्रा आपः॑ पृथि॒वीं त॑र्पयन्तु ॥५॥
udīrayata marutaḥ samudratas tveṣo arko nabha ut pātayātha. mahaṛṣabhasya nadato nabhasvato vāśrā āpaḥ pṛthivīṃ tarpayantu.
Stir up, O Maruts, from the ocean; let your fierce roar fall from the sky. From the bellowing mighty bull Nabhasvat, let the cow-like waters be released to satisfy the earth.

अ॒भि क्र॑न्द स्त॒नया॒र्दयो॑द॒धिं भूमिं॑ पर्जन्य॒ पय॑सा॒ सम॑ङ्धि । त्वया॑ सृ॒ष्टं ब॑हु॒लमैतु॑ व॒र्षमा॑शारै॒षी कृ॒शगु॑रे॒त्वस्त॑म्॥६॥
abhi kranda stanayārdayo dadhiṃ bhūmiṃ parjanya payasā samaṅdhi | tvayā sṛṣṭaṃ bahulam aitu varṣam āśāraiṣī kṛśaguretvas tam ||
Cry aloud, thunder, split asunder; O Parjanya, blend the curd of earth with milk. Let abundant rain you send forth by your outpourings come; drive away the lean and crushing drought.

saṃ vo avantu sudānava utsā ajagarā uta | marudbhiḥ pracyutā meghā varṣantu pṛthivī manu ||
May the bounteous ones protect you; and the wells, and the reservoirs. Loosened by the Maruts, let the clouds rain down over the earth.

āśām āśāṃ vi dyotatāṃ vātā vāntu diśo diśaḥ | marudbhiḥ pracyutā meghāḥ saṃ yantu pṛthivī manu ||
Let hope after hope light up; let the winds blow from every quarter. Loosened by the Maruts, let the clouds gather and move across the earth.

आपो॑ वि॒द्युद॒भ्रं व॒र्षं सं वो॑ऽवन्तु सु॒दान॑व॒ उत्सा॑ अजग॒रा उ॒त। म॒रुद्भिः॒ प्रच्यु॑ता मे॒घाः प्राव॑न्तु पृथि॒वीमनु॑ ॥९॥
āpo vidyud abhraṃ varṣaṃ saṃ vo avantu sudānava utsā ajagarā uta | marudbhiḥ pracyutā meghāḥ prāvantu pṛthivī manu ||
May the waters, the lightning, the cloud, the rain—may the bounteous ones protect you; the wells and the reservoirs too. Loosened by the Maruts, may the clouds pour forth over the earth.

अ॒पाम॒ग्निस्त॒नूभिः॑ संविदा॒नो य ओष॑धीनामधि॒पा ब॒भूव॑ । स नो॑ व॒र्षं व॑नुतां जा॒तवे॑दाः प्रा॒णं प्र॒जाभ्यो॑ अ॒मृतं॑ दि॒वस्परि॑ ॥१०॥
apām agnis tanūbhiḥ saṃvidāno ya oṣadhīnām adhipā babhūva | sa no varṣaṃ vanutāṃ jātavedāḥ prāṇaṃ prajābhyo amṛtaṃ divas pari ||
Agni of the waters, knowing in his bodies, who has become lord of the plants—may Jātavedas grant us rain, breath for our offspring, and deathless life from the sky’s expanse.

प्र॒जाप॑तिः सलि॒लादा स॑मुद्रादाप॑ ई॒रय॑न्नुद॒धिम॑र्दयाति । प्र प्या॑यतां॒ वृष्णो॒ अश्व॑स्य॒ रेतो॒ऽर्वाङे॒तेन॑ स्तनयि॒त्नुनेहि॑ ॥११॥
prajāpatiḥ salilādā samudrād āpā īrayann udadhim ardayāti | pra pyāyatāṃ vṛṣṇo aśvasya reto ’rvāṅ etena stanayitnunehi
Prajāpati, from the waters, from the ocean, drives forth the streams, he stirs the deep. May the seed of the Bull, the Steed, increase; come hither with this thunderer.

अ॒पो नि॑षि॒ञ्चन्नसु॑रः पि॒ता नः॒ श्वस॑न्तु॒ गर्ग॑रा अ॒पां व॑रु॒णाव॒ नीची॑र॒पः सृ॑ज । वद॑न्तु॒ पृश्नि॑बाहवो म॒ण्डूका॒ इरि॒णानु॑ ॥१२॥
apo niṣiñcan nasuraḥ pitā naḥ śvasantu gargara āpāṃ varuṇāva nīcīr apaḥ sṛja | vadantu pṛśnibāhavo maṇḍūkā iriṇānu
Sprinkling the waters, the Asura, our Father—let the gurgling streams breathe; O Varuṇa of the waters, send the waters downward. Let the speckled-armed frogs speak over the dry lands.

सं॒व॒त्स॒रं श॑शया॒ना ब्रा॑ह्म॒णा व्र॑तचा॒रिणः॑ । वाचं॑ प॒र्जन्य॑जिन्वितां॒ प्र म॒ण्डूका॑ अवादिषुः ॥१३॥
saṃvatsaraṃ śaśayānā brāhmaṇā vratacāriṇaḥ | vācaṃ parjanyajinvitāṃ pra maṇḍūkā avādiṣuḥ
Brahmins, vow-keepers, lay silent through the year. When Parjanya impelled their voice, the frogs cried out.

उ॒प॒प्रव॑द मण्डूकि व॒र्षमा व॑द तादुरि । मध्ये॑ ह्र॒दस्य॑ प्लवस्व वि॒गृह्य॑ च॒तुरः॑ प॒दः ॥१४॥
upapravada maṇḍūki varṣam ā vada tāduri | madhye hradasya plavasva vigṛhya caturaḥ padaḥ
Speak up, O frog; speak of the rain, Tāduri. In the midst of the pool, swim on, spreading your four feet apart.

khaṇvakhāi khaimakhāi madhye tāduri | varṣaṃ vanudhvaṃ pitaro marutāṃ mana icchata
Khaṇvakhāi khaimakhāi—so in the midst, Tāduri. Call for the rain, O Fathers; desire the mind of the Maruts.

म॒हान्तं॒ कोश॒मुद॑चा॒भि षि॑ञ्च सविद्यु॒तं भ॑वतु॒ वातु॒ वातः॑ । त॒न्वतां॑ य॒ज्ञं ब॑हु॒धा विसृ॑ष्टा आन॒न्दिनी॒रोष॑धयो भवन्तु ॥१६॥
mahāntaṃ koşam udacābhi ṣiñca savidyutaṃ bhavatu vātu vātaḥ tanvatāṃ yajñaṃ bahudhā visṛṣṭā ānandinīroṣadhayo bhavantu
Fill the great store with water; let it flash like lightning; let the wind blow. Let the widely distributed offerings extend the sacrifice; let the plants become delight-bringers.
