व्यतीतार्धरात्रसमये विनिद्रश चाचिन्तयत। ममोर्वशीसालोक्यप्राप्त्यर्थम अग्निस्थाली गन्धर्वैर दत्ता सा च मयाटव्यां परित्यक्ता। तद अहं तत्र तदाहरणाय यास्यामीत्य उत्थाय तत्राप्य उपगतो नाग्निस्थालीम अपश्यत। शमीगर्भं चाश्वत्थम अग्निस्थालीस्थाने दृष्ट्वाचिन्तयत। मयात्र स्थाली निक्षिप्ता सा चाश्वत्थः शमीगर्भो ऽभूत। तद एनम एवाहम अग्निरूपम आदाय स्वपुरम अभिगम्यारणीं कृत्वा तदुत्पन्नाग्नेर उपास्तिं करिष्यामीत्य एवम एव स्वपुरम उपगतो ऽरणिं चकार।।
vyatītārdharātrasamaye vinidraś cācintayat| mamorvaśīsālokyaprāptyartham agnisthālī gandharvair dattā sā ca mayāṭavyāṃ parityaktā| tad ahaṃ tatra tadāharaṇāya yāsyāmīty utthāya tatrāpy upagato nāgnisthālīm apaśyat| śamīgarbhaṃ cāśvattham agnisthālīsthāne dṛṣṭvācintayat| mayātra sthālī nikṣiptā sā cāśvatthaḥ śamīgarbho 'bhūt| tad enam evāham agnirūpam ādāya svapuram abhigamyāraṇīṃ kṛtvā tadutpannāgner upāstiṃ kariṣyāmīty evam eva svapuram upagato 'raṇiṃ cakāra||
At the time of midnight, he was lost in thought. 'For the sake of attaining Urvashi, the fire pot given by the Gandharvas has been abandoned by me. Therefore, I will go there to retrieve it.' He rose up, but did not see the fire pot. Seeing the Ashvattha tree in the place of the fire pot, he thought, 'Here, the pot has been placed, and the Ashvattha tree has emerged.' Thus, he took the form of fire and returned to his city, preparing to perform the worship of the fire that had arisen.
