।।17.10।।यातयामं चिरकालावस्थितम्? गतरसं त्यक्तस्वाभाविकरसम्? पूतिदुर्गन्धोपेतम्? पर्युषितं कालातिपत्त्या रसान्तरापन्नम्? उच्छिष्टं गुर्वादिभ्यः अन्येषां भुक्तशिष्टम्? अमेध्यम् अयज्ञार्हम्? अयज्ञशिष्टम् इत्यर्थः एवविधं तमोमयं भोजनं तामसप्रियं भवति। भुज्यते इत्याहार एव भोजनम्? पुनश्च तमसो वर्धनम्। अतो हितैषिभिः सत्त्ववृद्धये सात्त्विकाहार एव सेव्यः।
