Why did you, Varuṇa, make the chief elder whom you desire as praise, O friend? Speak that to me: the hard‑to‑obtain libations are for you; by these salutations may they come to you.
What has that great wickedness been, Varuṇa, that you should seek to destroy the worshiper, yourfriend? Insuperable, resplendent Varuṇa, declare it to me, so that, freed from sin, I may quick approach you withveneration.
What, Varuna, hath been my chief transgression, ihat thou wouldst slay the friend who sings thy praises? Tell me, Unconquerable Lord, and quickly sinless will I approach thee with mine homage.
